Customer Review: Not so Hot...

First, let me say that this seems like a well made product with decent fit & finish for the price. It looks good and seems fairly rugged. You may like the build quality and the relative ease of use. For me, if the performance fails, nothing else matters.
If you need a serving carafe for an office or dinner party - where you expect the coffee to be used up in fairly short order - then this is fine. However, if you want hot liquid after a couple of hours, this is NOT the carafe for you.
It's basic physics. Steel is a POOR insulator. A dual-wall vacuum sealed unit such as this is just never going to perform as well as a glass-lined carafe or thermos. A decent glass-lined unit will keep liquid hot and tasting freshly-brewed for hours, even into the next day. Hot liquid put into this steel carafe will be unpleasantly luke warm after about 4 hours. The all-important 2pm coffee break will require a freshly brewed pot.
In addition to the steel construction, the wide-mouth plastic top contribute to heat loss. The lid is all plastic and poorly insulated. Heat, rising to the top, makes the wide lid warm to the touch as it escapes.
In the end, the product doesn't perform well and doesn't fit my needs. It will be returned.

Have you ever been serving coffee and not sure if it is too hot or too cold? Do not use your lips as a guinea pig. This carafe has a strong construction and the Temp Assure Thermometer removes the guesswork of serving hot or cold beverages. The thermometer is a small prong that reads the vapor of the beverage inside the carafe.This stylish stainless-steel carafe with a two-liter capacity allows coffee to be made ahead of time and kept hot for serving after dinner, or keeps ice tea cold for taking on a picnic. The vacuum insulation provides excellent heat (or cold) retention for up to 12 hours, and the black synthetic handle and spout make pouring easy. Primula takes the guesswork out of whether the contents are too hot or not hot enough with TempAssure technology, which consists of a probe inside the vessel that reads vapor from the beverage, then displays the temperature externally on the lid. An excellent gift, the carafe (model PES-5020) is best washed out by hand without submerging. --Ann Bieri
