It's a bit unusual to find black teas tied into flowering rosettes. Most of what I run across are green and white flowering teas. This collection of twelve little balls, each with a different floral center, is a delight to watch through a glass teapot as it blooms and a treat to sip once it's ready. It is definitely more subtle compared to other Earl Greys, but its floral and herbal wisps are an exquisite compliment to the classic & easily recognizable black tea with bergamot base.
That said, you can't ask too much from one little ball. The package says 12 balls/36 steeps - makes over 250 cups. I have not found this to be at all realistic. The most tea, at its best, that I've been able to extract is one ball in 16 oz of boiling water for three to five minutes, max. Any longer and the tea just stews. Steeping in more than 16 oz of hot water and the result is unremarkable, losing much of its artisan characteristics. Subsequent steepings have nowhere near the delicate complexity of the first, leaving you with a disappointing cup of colored hot water. It's not exactly a frugal expense - you really can't expect more than 24 oz of tea from one 12-ball package, though the 24 oz you do get is remarkable.
