Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Prime Pacific Trading Stainless Steel Stockpot Set

Customer Review: Good value for the price
Summary: 4 Stars

I read some of the reviews and was a bit concerned, but tried it anyway. First, I would concur that these pots are lightweight and the metal is thin, but they are still fine for soups, stews, making beer or cheese etc. I wouldn't use them to make a roux or bechamel, but I didn't expect to use them for anything like that. For boiling primarily thin liquids, they are more than fine.

Second, I was concerned about the volume issues, since a number of buyers had said the reported volumes of the pots were considerably less than stated. I checked 2 of the 4 pots and they are spot on within a reasonable measurement. Perhaps this was a problem in the past that has now been corrected.

Third, others had reported leaks at the handles where they are riveted on. The two pots that I tested for volume did not leak at the handles.

So, overall, these are a very good value for the money. If you want very heavy duty pots that you can use to reduce cream, these are not for you. Then again, you shouldn't expect that at this price level. I plan to use mine to make cheese, and it will be perfect for heating 2 gallons of milk at a time in a double boiler arrangement. I'm sure we'll use them for soups as well.

Customer Review: Great Value - with comments
Summary: 5 Stars

Great Value for the money. Yes they are thin, Yes the rivets are poorly done, Yes they do not hold what they lead you to believe (More on that later), Yes they were dirty with industrial dirt, but they work great for cheese making. The heating delay is very minimal due to the thin metal, great benefit for controlling temps. I have a heavy pot for the water and use these for the milk.

On the Volume discrepancy, I found that all the pots held less than advertised. Seemed like a conversion thing from the manufacture. Did a little digging and found that a United Kingdom (UK) Gallon is 20% less than a US Gallon. Funny that all the pots are about 20% undersized. Probably has to do with India being a Commonwealth country, and then transferred the tools and specs to a lower cost manufacturing country. Globalization.

They were delivered in record time, three days from order to door. Fast Free Shipping.

All in all I went into this with Eyes Wide Open and got what I expected. These are a great Value Buy for working pots, they are not fancy pots to be put on display.

Customer Review: Quality and Volumes are Suspect
Summary: 1 Stars

Issue 1: The quality is poor. I expected poor quality from a four pot set for $40, so I was not displeased with the chipped stainless coating nor with the thin gauge steel.

Issue 2: I was displeased with the false advertising pertaining to the pots' volumes. Every pot is about 25% low in volume. The "20qt" pot is about 15qt. The "8qt" pot is 6qt, etc. Volume measurement is not always accurate, so here I will supply the linear measurements to calculate the volume:

The largest pot measures 9.5" high (interior) by 11.5" diameter (interior)

PI * (11.5 / 2)^2 * 9.5 = 960.8 cubic inches

960.8 cubic inches * 1 qt / 57.75 cubic inches = 16.63 quarts

That is the volume when filled to the brim. You could only boil about 15 quarts safely.

If all you need is four cheaply constructed nesting pots of volumes between 6 and 15 quarts, then this is the product for you. If you want better quality or the volumes actually stated on the packaging, find a different product.

Customer Review: Very happy with these for my purpose
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this set of stainless steel pots for soapmaking, and they are perfect. If I would have been buying them for cooking, I most certainly would have purchased a more expensive set. These are not thick, heavy pans, but they are great for my purpose. The lids don't all fit perfectly, they may dent if you bang them on something. I think for soapmaking or just boiling pasta, these work great. If you are going to buy these for overall cooking use, you will probably not be happy with them - in that case, spend more than this to get a nice thick set of pots. :)

Customer Review: 20QTs - not really
Summary: 1 Stars

The largest pot is maybe 14Qts as delivered to me. Did not look right from the size of the box and sure enough I filled a 2qt container 6 times and dumped the water in. Pretty close to the top already.

That is why it is so cheap combined with the absolute thinnest steel pot I have ever seen.

Doesn't anyone at Amazon actually check this stuff before they list it for sale?

Not worth the hassle of returning for $20
