We purchased a set of Chicago Cutlery on sale a couple years back. The knives were fine, but only for a short time, and became dull (and beyond annoying to use). I was ready to throw them out! My mother in law purchased this knife sharpener and was saying how well it worked. I borrowed hers to see if there was any hope to salvage my set. It worked so well, I could not even believe that they were the same knives!! I came to Amazon and bought the sharpener that very same day (and I have to say, I spent $10 less than she did in the store for the same item, and I got free shipping!). At Thanksgiving dinner yesterday, I noticed that my sister had the same knife set that I do, and she was complaining that they are dull and do not sharpen well. She is buying this sharpener as well with my suggestion! You will love it!!

Gosh, I'm in love with this machine. After using a sharpening stone and the steel (I must admit they worked sometimes - it's not the tool it really was my lack of expertise) it was a pleasure to finally get an automatic machine that sharpened the blade with no fuss.
At first I thought it was a dud because the blade got stuck a couple of times in the first slot, but then I noticed that the slot is slanted and I was actually holding the knife in the wrong position. After that! Well, it worked like magic and now I have a very sharp blade!
By the way, it really gets really sharp and I've lost pieces of skin since. You won't have to put pressure on the knife when slicing your onions or skinning chicken, etc. Just remember that.
Do they make a machine for serrated knives and scissors?

One night my husband spent three hours sharpening our Chicago Cutlery set by hand and afterwards said he wanted to find an electric sharpner. We started pricing them, but from what we saw they ranged from $80-$135. I went online and found the EverSharp and after reading the reviews purchased it and set it aside for XMas. I just have to say that it has lived up to expectations and then some. It's amazing how quick and effecient this sharpner is! In less than five minutes my husband had our Cutlery knives sharpened even better than they were when we originally got them. He then sharpened his mother's knives that have never had a good sharpening.
I knew I had bought him a good product when after each sharpening he looked at the knife and whispered: "Oh my God!"

I HAVE LOOKED AT AND TRIED SEVERAL KNIFE SHARPENERS. SO WHY NOT ONE MORE?? WHEN THE SHARPENER ARRIVED I WAS SUPRISED AT ITS WEIGHT...GOOD! I READ THE INSTRUCTIONS AS ADVISED AND THEN I RETREIVED THE OLD CHEAP KNIFE THAT I LOVE. I SHARPENED & HONED IT AND THEN TRIED IT OUT ON A RANDOM POTATO...WOW IS THIS A NEW KNIFE??? THEN I CUT "THE TOMATO", A TRUE TEST, MY CHEAP KNIEF SLICED RIGHT THROUGH THE TOUGH SKIN. I USED MY BELOVED KNIFE THIS MORNING (3 WEEKS LATER) IT IS STILL SHARP! I HAVE NOW SENT ONE TO MY DAUGHTER AND BROTHER IN LAW. THE ONLY NEGATIVE THAT WE AGREE ON IS THAT IT IS LOUD WHEN YOU FIRE IT UP BUT WITH THE RESULTS WE HAVE SEEN HOW OFTEN IS THAT GOING TO BE? This is a wonderfull purchase. I love to cook and sharp knives are essential. Originally I bought it with the intention of putting it with my husband's Christmas gift stash so he could use it for sharpening fishing knives. However, after getting a good look at my own kitchen knives, I cracked it open and started sharpening. It is easy to use, and does a great job. Incidentally, I have two sets of the Henkels knives and just bought a set of Calphalon. All are wonderful. The Henkles are going on ten years of solid use and even when dull did a respectable job. Now they are sharp and ready for more good things to come out of the kitchen. Definately worth checking out. Oh, I bought mine (sharpener) on clearance too, gotta hit those clearance end caps Target devotees!
