Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Presto Pro EverSharp Electric Knife SharpenerCustomer Review: Works great on my cheap knives! Summary: 5 Stars
About a year ago I bought a two-pack of Santoku knives at a restaurant supply store for about $20. I immediately started using one and left the other in the package. It was great, but even with regular honing with a steel, and as with any knife, eventually the edge wore down and it just wasn't very sharp anymore. I didn't realize how bad it had got until I brought out the second, still brand new knife, which was of course very sharp and wonderful to use and made it really obvious the rest of my knives could use some attention. I bought the Presto sharpener to try to bring them back to life. The first knife I tried was the dull Santoku knife. Before sharpening, I used a bell pepper as the benchmark, and tried cutting it with each of the knives. The new one sliced through like butter of course, and the old one took some downward pressure to get through the skin. I then sharpened the dull one, three passes in each slot, using only the weight of the knife as I drew it through. Back to the bell pepper: I could tell NO difference between the old sharpened knife and the new one. Definately glad I got this!
Customer Review: No guess work Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this to go along with a new quality knife set Anolon 52616 Advanced Collection 8-Piece Knife Set that I bought. I don't know much about sharpening knives and wouldn't know how to go about buying--much less using--a sharpening stone so I invested in this product. Well, I guess it's not so much an invested because I got it for free with Amazon's 4 for 3 deal. The first phase of sharpening (labeled 1) is for use with a new set and when they dull over time. The second phase is for use before or after each use as it serves to hone your knives. I never worry about ruining my knives because the slots ensure the optimal angle of sharpening which completely eliminates the guess work. And lastly, it's a heck of a lot of fun to use. Once while I was very frustrated and angry about something, I pulled out my chef's knife and went on to hone it and it ground my troubles away. There's something satisfying about the ring of metal as the sapphirite hones the blade to precision.
Customer Review: Never a dull holiday again - you must have this sharpener Summary: 5 Stars
I don't write many reviews but love this purchase so much that I need to share the joy. I hosted Christmas dinner this year, and was fed up with my dull knives that I spent too much money on. I have a set of Wustof and Viking knives that are about two years old and have only been sharpened with the manual presto sharpener. When I saw all of the positive reviews on this sharpener and the good price, I thought I'd take my chances. I am not at all disappointed!! It's so easy to use and after one round (3 passes on step 1 and 3 passes on step 2), I am looking for onions, tomatoes and herbs to chop. My blades are so sharp! The manual states that it may take a couple of rounds to get your knives up to par, but I had no problem on first round. I seem to recall a review from someone about bearing down to make it work. That is not necessary at all - my knives, including my serrated bread knife, sailed right through. This purchase was well worth the money and I would highly recommend it to anyone out there annoyed with their dull knives.
Customer Review: Unbeatable Value Summary: 5 Stars
We really needed our knives sharpened. It had been way too long - alright, never. We had gotten in the habit of simply buying a new knife when needed, so had quite a hodgepodge collection, all of old & out-of-shape cutlery.
Not any more! The Presto Pro Eversharp is a wizard. Use could not be easier. It takes a few swipes across the running wheel on each side, wash off the knife and done! I started with two big slicing blades to see how it works. My wife, who has taken professional cooking courses, immediately noticed a difference across tomatoes, meat, bread, olives.
I then went onto sharpen the whole drawer. What did it take, 15 minutes total? It handles big knives, small knifes, chopping, paring, slicing, dicing, expensive, cheap, you name it.
And did I mention the price? Cannot be beat! I just could not pull the trigger on one of those expensive Chef's Choice (although I am sure they are a good product), but for $29 through Amazon, the Presto Eversharp was worth a try. And what a success!
Customer Review: Intuitive sharpener Summary: 4 Stars
I've owned this sharpener for almost a year now. It is very easy to use. Slide the knife through each of the slots, using the first pair three times each before moving to the second pair and using them three times each. If the knife is not sharp enough repeat procedure. While this won't eliminate the need to have a professional sharpen your knives from time to time, it will keep them relatively sharp in between visits to the pro.
I've owned a very nice Henckels chef's knife for the last 20 years. I also have a couple of cheap Chicago Cutlery knives, a very nice parer, and a couple inexpensive bread knives. It takes more times through the sharpener for the nicer, heavier tempered steel of the Henckels than it does the thinner knives. I was very pleased I could sharpen my one sided serrated bread knife with good results.
If you're looking for an easy, quick way to sharpen your knives between professional sharpening, I would recommend this knife especially if you get it on an aggressive Friday sale.
