Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Presto Pro EverSharp Electric Knife Sharpener

Customer Review: Finally! A gadget that sharpens and hones knife blades like a pro!
Summary: 5 Stars

I chose the Presto Knife Sharpener based on the numerous 5 star reviews ... well, here's another!

The 2-stage system does exactly what is described in the 'Product Details' ... it sharpens, then hones knife blades.

Three slow (3 seconds) passes on the sharpening side followed by three quick (1 second) passes on the honing side is all it takes. I sharpened my kitchen knives in seconds ... literally!

Here's a tip from Presto ... to keep your knives sharp at all times, simply hone the knife blades after each use. It works!

At 3 pounds, the Presto Pro EverSharp Electric Knife Sharpener has a sturdy feel and sleek modern look. The underside of the knife sharpener is equipped with suction pads to keep the unit steady while sharpening.

For those who dislike reading instructions, the sharpening side is labelled '1' and the honing side '2'. It's that easy to use!

At the base of the Knife Sharpener , there are two collection chambers for the blade filings (from sharpening and honing). This is emptied by simply unplugging two plastic plugs. According to the manufacturer, we need to do this only once a year ... I don't mind chores like that! :)

Definitely, 5 stars for a great Electric Knife Sharpener from Presto!

Customer Review: This worked where all the other sharpeners failed
Summary: 5 Stars

My son gave me a high quality chef's knife a year ago. I kept the knife sharp using a sharpening steel. I had never used a high quality knife before and the difference was remarkable. It was a real improvement over all the knives I had ever used. I really enjoyed using it.

Then, after about 4 months, the knife suddenly got dull. No matter what I did I could not get it back to the way it was when it was new! I used 6 different sharpening gadgets including an oiled wet-stone, a powered work-shop knife sharpener, two traditional kitchen knife sharpeners and even a special diamond coated gadget from our local gourmet shop. They all got the knife sharp, as sharp as all my other knives, but it was no longer dramatically better than the cheap knives.

Based on the 5 star reviews, I decided to give the Presto 08800 Pro EverSharp Electric Knife Sharpener a try. After carefully following the instructions, the knife was restored to it's like-new scary sharpness on the first sharpening. It has stayed sharp for 2 weeks with much use.
We have since sharpened several other knives with similar high quality results.

Don't do what I did, instead buy this sharpener first! It is a great tool!

My advice is to carefully read the instructions and follow them. It worked for me.

Customer Review: Been there, done that on sharpeners but this one gets it done
Summary: 5 Stars

Claims. Some more gaudy than others but all products make claims, including this Pro EverSharp Electric Knife Sharpener which made good on all its claims.

It's easy to use, effective in what it does and the outcome is a sharper knife, even the ones with serated edges, than you had before. Around my house, we LIKE easy!

We also like quality and effectiveness which this sharpener delivers. To be fair for potential buyers, don't expect surgical razor edges after running the blade through the simple cycles. If you press too hard, the grinding wheels will stop, but you'll get the feel for the right pressure within a knife or two.

It definitely beats the draconian hand held sharpeners that we've all used and, if your experiences are similar to my own, have cut ourselves by accident. (I still have a Thankgiving sharpening scar from 1977 to prove my point).

No worries on this sharpener unless you're really trying to cut yourself eh? Anyway, it's good value for the money and makes a good gift for your family and friends. Let your enemies use those old hand held sharpeners and save this Pro EverSharp sharpener for the good folk!

Customer Review: Eversharp Knife Sharpener
Summary: 4 Stars

The wife wanted ceramic knives, but there were too many negative reviews related to brittleness of the edge, so I decided to look into electric knife sharpeners instead. We have good sets of Chicago Cutlery and J.A. Henckels from our wedding 30 years ago and only a few have been professionally sharpened...dropping them off for sharpening and picking them up is a nuisance. After reading a few of the positive reviews of this sharpener, I gave it a try...and was not disappointed when I first used it. I produced an acceptable edge on a 30-year old knife that had never been properly sharpened in only a short time...and then I took some time to refine the edge and produced a really sharp blade!! One thing I noticed...pay attention to the directions - draw the blade towards you at the speed they recommend or you may end up with micro serations on the blade (seen with a magnifying glass)...apparently the grinding (and less so the honing) wheel contact on the blade is narrow and you need to draw the blade towards you quickly to produce a smooth and straight edge...don't worry though the micro serations can be removed, it just takes a little more time. A real value for the price.

Customer Review: Really nice item.

I have a bunch of Cutco knives and was thinking about sending them back to the factory to get sharpened. I found the Presto eversharp on Amazon at a great price and since I saw good reviews and gave it a try.

From the start, it takes a couple runs to get used to the device, since it's a little hard to see the dual grinding wheels, but after about a minute, it's pretty obvious that it's starting to work. It's easy to check the before and after effects by trying to slice a piece of paper. I ran the knives through once and they can easily cut the paper now. A meat cleaver that I use had to go through 3 times, so it really depends on how dull it is. Just be careful on the knife ends, since the knife end near the handle was grinded a little more than I wanted to, since I wasn't paying attention.

There's also a couple small plugs on the bottom of the device, so that you can clean out the small metal grinds after your done.

Overall, it's a nice product for $21.99. You can't go wrong. I already saved $9 from not sending it back to Cutco.

Hope this review helps!
