Have been using this fryer for months. It's great!
That said, yes, most everything the one, two, and three-star raters said is true.
It get's hot. Yes, it's "cool touch" when compared to the original metal Fry Daddy. If you touched those, you got burned. If you touch this, it's just hot. But what do you expect...it's 375 degrees.
It doesn't get hot enough. Yes, it only goes to 375 degree. I'm guessing there's liability issues at play and small appliance manufactures probably don't want to market a home fryer that's over 400 degrees for fear of being sued when someone burns their house down. If you put a truckload of fries in there, you have two choices: fries that are just done, or greasy crispy fries. I think this has to do with dropping too many frozen fries at once dropping the temperature. I opt for plan B, I fry them in smaller batches so I can have them crispy without soaking up too much grease. I think it's safe to say the same is true of every other home fryer.
The door is spring loaded. Yes, you will want to release the lid with one hand and ease the lid up with the other.
It generates steam. Sure enough, it's hot and when you drop a basket filled with moisture-heavy goodies it's going to produce a lot of steam. Keep you hands away!
It holds oil, it gets hot, it cooks stuff. All-in-all a considerable improvement over the old Fry Daddy. (Or putting an open pot of oil on the stove!) I like the basket, the lid, and ability to clean it. I feel much more comfortable loading the basket, putting it in, closing the lid, and then lowering the basket into the oil than I did chucking things into my old Fry Daddy and hoping to not get splashed or scalded. But please, make no mistake, it's a FRYER. I think it's considerably safer than the old Fry Daddy but you still need to be careful.

I bought this fryer based on all the positive reviews here at Amazon and I am quite happy with my purchase! Amazon had a sale on "damaged box" fryers for considerably less than the "new" price (clicked on the "used" marketplace items -- it was actually new and sold by Amazon, not a marketplace seller) but the box had never been opened and the fryer was in perfect condition, as per their description. I have been very happy with this fryer -- my only prior experience was with a "frybaby" and this is a night and day difference! The basket is huge -- I was able to cook my low-carb fried clams in only two batches, rather than the five or six I had to do with the fry baby. And this one is so much safer!!! I love the way the lid closes and then you lower the basket down into the oil safely! And the outside does stay cool!! I make sure to put a hand on top of the lid before pressing the button to open it, and it opens nice and slowly without popping up. The oil was plenty hot enough for my clams and they cooked in record time, too. I did a LOT of research on fryers before purchasing this one, and for the price there is really no comparison with any other fryer on the market right now -- you could probably get a similar or better one, but you're going to pay a LOT more for it. The deciding factor was when I did a video search for "cooldaddy fryer" on the 'net and found some videos of these in action -- that's a good way to see all the features and how large they are before purchasing one.Customer Review: Great Product but Smaller than Expected

I love the new Presto Cooldaddy deep fryer. I cooked catfish fillets and the food came out crisp and delicious. The only problem that I had was that it doesn't hold six servings of food as the ad states. I placed four fillets in the basket, and the food stuck to the basket. I had difficulty getting the fish out and had to scrape the basket to get the coating off. The food tasted good, but some places were a little unevenly cooked. The next time I fried two catfish fillets at a time and they came out perfect. Crispy and golden brown and delicious. I also cooked frozen french fries, and they cooked in about 10-12 minutes. Be careful and make sure the plug is inserted properly. My plug kept coming out and I was afraid the fryer would stop heating. My mistake. Just make sure the plug is securely attached to the fryer before you begin cooking. If you are cooking for a family, you will need two of these fryers going at once. I wish Presto made a larger capacity deep fryer in the Cooldaddy. Overall I love this product, I just wish it was a little larger.Customer Review: Amazing

I love this deep fryer. It is everything I was looking for in a home deep fryer. It works great. I deep fry french fries and chicken in it all the time. I love the way you can lower the basket in to the oil with the lid closed, and you can also raise the basket out of the oil with the lid closed as well. This helps a lot in preventing splatters. It holds 8 cups of oil which is plenty. I use peanut oil. My only complaint would be that the viewing window is kinda useless. It fogs over right away so you cant see anything, but I just open the lid slightly when the food is frying to peek in which works. It is very easy to clean as well. The lid and frying bucket you just soak in warm soapy water, and the frying basket can go in the dishwasher and you can just wipe down the outside of the fryer with a damp paper towel. I love this deep fryer and would easily make this purchase again or refer a friend to this fryer.Customer Review: cool daddy deep fryer

I recently baught the dual daddy deep fryer and was not happy with it at all. The spatula to take the cooked food out of the oil was small and had a short handle so i would get splattred often. The dual daddy fryer also did not have a cover for it so grease splated every where and was a total mess to clean up and i would get splatted too OUCH! so i sold my dual daddy and asked to borrow my friends cool daddy deep fryer lol and i fell in love with it! so immediatley after i used hers i went and baught one for myself its great fryer you can adjust the temp of the oil and it has a lid you can close on it so grease does not splatter everywhere and on you. The drop basket is awesome its easy to gather and remove your food from the oil all at once and the vent filters the smoke from the fryer so that ssmelly fry smell is not as bad i thought. this is just a great fryer i deffinatly reccomend anyone to buy this one!
