Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Presto 8-Quart Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker

Customer Review: Presto 8-quart stainless steel pressure cooker
Summary: 5 Stars

I just love my new Presto 8-quart stainless steel pressure cooker.
I have never used a pressure cooker, but have always wanted to
try one. I did many hours of research, including Amazon with its
many reviews, and finally decided on this one. Great choice!
I've concluded that the main drawback with automatic electric
pressure cookers is that the electronic panel will fail sooner
or later, and the Teflon coating of the pot will wear out.
This unit has NO drawbacks. I love the pressure release valve
feature---no need to run cold water on it to depressurize it.
It is beautiful in its craftsmanship in gleaming stainless steel.
Big enough for anything---8 quarts is very desirable.
I've been too busy to get around to cooking much in it, but I
did cook many quartered, peeled potatoes in it (without the
steamer basket) and made mashed potatoes. There is no doubt
this will be great for many foods. It's exciting to cook with it!

Customer Review: i can't ask for more...
Summary: 5 Stars

This is idle pressure cooker and the most convenient one too. Where I came from all our recipes and local food are cooked with pressure cookers and we are very familiar with the European models like Turbo and Saab. When I came to the US for study I was surprised how people are afraid of it and hesitate before buying one. So I start looking for the perfect one and this came upon me. What caught my attention in this model are:
- Stainless steel (DON'T USE ALUMINUM)
- Tight seal no leakage
- high safety measures
- steel - brass sandwich base very good for distributing heat
- light weight
- smooth interior easy to clean
- removable seal ring so you can clean it in the dishwasher
- perfect size for meals of 1-6 people
I received mine few days ago and start my trial at once. I cooked rice with beef and it was great. It needs a previous knowledge of cooking times so you don't end up with half burned pot of rice. Adding a pressure gauge to it will very helpful.

Customer Review: Great value, nice size.
Summary: 5 Stars

Nice quality, thick bottom for browning. I have pressure cooked for 40 yrs. & say Yea! Presto.
Interior size of pot is 9.25" diam. by 7". Bottom inside edge is rounded so be sure any other inserts you buy are no larger than 8"X6". USE TRIVIT! (included)

The included steamer basket is quite small, Probably so it would also fit Presto 4qt. & 6qt. pots.

Took a while to get used to 'no jiggle' weight. The unit auto releases the air in the pot till gets up to temp. then is self sealing. Really much easier than old method.

I like the short handles on both sides so it can easily be put under running water in sink for quick cool downs.

The classico tomato jars at 24 oz. use standard canning lids and will fit 4 per batch. Diam. of these jars is same as a std. pint. jar.

Have made GREAT stews with turkey drums, beef roasts, I do red potatoes, oinion, and carrots with meat. YUM!
Just got corning 1.5 & 2.5 qt verticle bakeware as inserts to make custards and puddings, YUM!

Customer Review: Works good with my induction hob
Summary: 5 Stars

I want to contribute to the already rave reviews by adding some things that have not previously been commented on. I did a lot of comparison shopping at the retail stores before choosing the 8 quart Presto. The gauge of the metal is definitely thicker than the Fagors, especially the cover. I believe that will add longevity. I noticed that Presto is using a white silicon gasket now. That may be why it closes and opens for me with little effort, contrary to a couple of previous posts.

I use it in combination with a Max Burton 6200 induction hob with great results. I can bring it to pressure quickly at the 10 setting. Then once I see the first water droplet form on the top of the regulator, I drop it down to the 2 setting. It holds pressure without any further need of adjustment. I am very pleased and highly recommend the short handles.

Presto should offer a whole line with this handle design and drop the aluminum pressure cookers entirely. Also I want to plug Miss Vickie's book. At 400 recipes, it's a super value.

Customer Review: Good Solid Cooker
Summary: 5 Stars

This unit replaces a 30 year old 6 quart aluminum pressure cooker. Have had it about a month and used it 3 times. Seems to work great. Bottom conducts heat well and fits nicely over the large element of my electric stove.

The 8 quart size is very useful. I can cook several quarts of chicken vegetable soup plus a whole chicken at the same time, for example.

I would suggest putting a little vegetable oil or margarine on the lid gasket, it makes closing the lid much easier.

The stainless seems to clean quickly and easily with a Scotch-Brite pad.

If you haven't used a pressure cooker before, they cook very quickly by raising the pressure to 15 PSI, this allows the temperature to increase well beyond what you could get at normal atmospheric pressure (water boils at higher temperature under pressure). At the same time the steam displaces the oxygen inside so food can't oxidize or "burn". Perfect for people like me who like to eat but hate wasting time cooking.
