Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Presto 3510 FlipSide Belgian Waffle MakerCustomer Review: Best waffle maker for under $100 Summary: 5 Stars
Fluffy, crispy, scrumptious. How else can you describe a waffle of perfection. All that remains is to run out and purchase whip cream and strawberries!
This waffle maker is worth every penny. Easy to use, easy to clean, easy to eat too many waffles. I used Hungry Jack packages of waffle mix and followed the directions on the box. 1 heaping cup of waffle mix results in the perfect waffle anything less and you get a partial waffle.
Beware of the recommended cooking times. With prepackaged waffle mixes 3.5 to 4 minutes seems to be too long. 3 minutes is just about right, but play with the cooking times to see what works for you.
Each waffle comes out crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Brings me back to my childhood Saturday mornings. Don't forget to buy REAL mapple syrup!
Some reviewers have complained that the two plates do not fit together tightly, but I have not run into this problem. Just make sure to brush both sides with oil before the first use and expect a burning smell the first time you turn it on. This smell only lasts a few minutes your first time using the product.
Highly recommended by a waffle connoisseur.
Customer Review: So far, SO GOOOOOD!! Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered this waffle maker in the hopes of reliving the glorious breakfasts my wife and I shared on the North Shore of Lake Superior. I was excited when the appliance arrived 2 days ahead of schedule and I prepared it for service the very next morning.
For our first waffle, I used Bob's Red Mill high fiber waffle/pancake mix. I followed the recipe on the bag, but added 2 tbsp brown sugar, to sweeten the deal.
I plugged in the waffle maker, waited for the little red light to go off, then poured a cup (a little more, actually, to just cover all the little black pockets)and waited 3 1/2 minutes before opening the still-steaming lid. All of you who say to not heed the "wait until steaming stops" directions, you are correct. If ALL steam stopped, you're going to have a black waffle. Cool, if you're into burnt baked goods.
Opening the lid revealed a beautiful, golden, crispy-on-the-outside-buttery-fluffy-on-the-inside waffle. Not only did it look beautiful, but my wife said it tasted better than the heavenly waffles at our lakefront hotel. Yes, this was $40 well-spent, and I look forward to using this lovely little morning joymaker for years to come!
Customer Review: Great Waffle Maker Summary: 5 Stars
This waffle maker is great. I'm glad that I didn't purchase the $90 waffle maker that I thought I really needed because it made two waffles at one time. i was so excited when it arrived that the next day we had waffles for breakfast. This was my first time every preparing waffles for my family so I was a little bit nervous. But they turned out great and since then i have made waffles twice. I think my family is tired of them, but I have a new toy so I'm using it...lol. I have only had two issues with it so far. The directions said i only had to brush oil on the iron once and then after that the waffles will not stick. I didn't put oil on the iron for the second one and it did stick a little bit. So now I am brushing a little oil on the iron before I make each waffle. The second issue i had was the second time I made waffles the iron got very hot and made the waffles more brown and crispy than I perferred. The first use i set the timer for 4 minutes and the waffles turned out great. So I suggest the second time you make waffles to change the time you cook the waffles to maybe 3 or 3 1/2 minutes. But in the end i love my waffle maker and I'm very happy with this purchase.
Customer Review: There's A Reason This Gets So Many 5 Star Reviews -- It Makes GREAT Waffles Summary: 5 Stars
Nice, sturdy unit with a unique flip action. Rather than like most other rotating waffle makers that have the flip action suspended mid-air (sort of like a rotisserie) this unit flips 180 degrees over its base. This is a much simpler design and the unit seems much sturdier due to its simplicity. Why didn't anyone else think of this? Waffles are now foolproof, crispy outside/soft and fluffy inside. It is also easy to clean with a quick wipe out with a damp cloth or paper towel. In use, the unit is a bit bigger than I imagined (you will need to have enough room on either side of the base to 'flip' it); however, storage made easy and compact as it stands upright. I agree with other reviewers that the timer is a joke. I used it the first time and feel it is a waste of a battery. I'm using the timer on my stove (or microwave) instead. I'm giving it 5 stars for the waffles, not the timer.
3/7/09 UPDATE: After 1+ month I'm absolutely LOVING this thing. Other than the first time I used it, I don't even have to apply any nonstick oil/spray. In just 4 minutes waffles are evenly baked, light and fluffy inside and just right crisp on the outside.
Customer Review: Bought 6 so far Summary: 5 Stars
Bought first in May,liked simple rugged design, with highest power offered, fixed baking temperature, tried it and worked fine, used Walmart Buttermilk Pancake Mix , sexed up with i egg per cup of mix, and used milk, used light spray oil seasoning prior to first waffle ,wiped excess oil with paper towel. Used time for 3 minutes as baking guide. Terrific waffles, Bought 2nd in June, had 2 going for large family gathering, used same recipe and fresh fruit topping and/or Maple syrup (warmed) as topping. Family raved over taste and quality, Meantime tested whipped egg whites alternative with Walmart Buttermilk mix several times, a winner for texture, and lightness, Topping checked included thinned Raspberry Jam as a warmed syrup, w & w/o fruit toppings. Bought 4 more for Family for Christmas. Checked almost every brand offered, most were cheaply made and had more hinges/handle locks, or spindly supports, plastic covered bases, or controls to be damaged to go wrong, or their power(wattage) was lower. Need folks to publicize their alternative proven recipes for our Presto Waffler's! Plan to try Cornbread mix waffles offered by a reviewer.
