Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Presto 3510 FlipSide Belgian Waffle Maker

Customer Review: Died 1 year 2 months to date after purchase!
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this on August 9, 2009. It's October 9, 2010. I made a batch of batter, plugged in waffle iron and no light and no heat! No obvious reason for the lack of power, cord is fine and not greasy, its been stored properly.
My boyfriend and I used this iron ever once in a while, maybe 2-4 times a month so it hasn't been heavily used. The limited 1 year warranty is up but I looked it up and the only why to replaced it was to pay for shipping to a center in WI which probably wouldn't be worth it considering the size and weight of this thing!

Oh well. I never was a huge fan of it. I mostly made my bf make all the waffles because he mastered the timing better. But we still often had problems where half the waffle would stick to the iron when opening it up even though we had oiled it. Another thing I disliked is is how BIG these pancakes are. We never came across one packaged batter mix where we didn't have to double it to get just two waffles (even though some boxes said a single batch would make 3-4!). That's just too much waffle for me. And the steam would make the non metallic parts (base) dirty and oily and even though its easy to wipe down, you can't reach every hole and where it rotates.

Guess we are gonna have to spend double to get a better one. Such a shame. This product has such great reviews everywhere I was expecting it to last a while. I really don't see that many complaints of it dying so fast!

Customer Review: Superior, wonderful waffles - but faulty thermal fuse
Summary: 4 Stars

I have been through several waffle makers over the years, and this model makes some of the best Belgian waffles.

They are just the right thickness, not too crisp, with well-sized "dimples" for retaining a generous helping of berries, yogourt and maple syrup.

I actually bought two of these after carefully comparing its waffle moulds with those of competing models.

I would have given a five-star rating except for one significant problem. Both units stopped working after about three months of weekly use because of a faulty thermal fuse.

I managed to repair them myself with a $5 replacement fuse from Radio Shack.

Amazon.com customer contributor T. J. Moyer actually deserves the credit for helping me identify and fix the problem. He has posted some very instructive photos with the competing Waring Pro waffle maker entry (see Waring WMK300A Pro Professional Stainless-Steel Belgian Waffle Maker). This appears to be a common problem with waffle makers generally. It may explain previous failures I have experienced with waffle makers from other manufacturers. I notice several customer reviews citing sudden failures across various brands.

I hope Presto addresses this issue because otherwise this is a superior waffle maker for a very reasonable price.

Customer Review: Love, love, love it!
Summary: 5 Stars

Making waffles has never been easier. I use this every weekend and have tried all sorts of mixes in it including whole wheat and gluten free. I have even added blueberries, flax, buck wheat flour, protien powder, greek yogurt instead of milk or pecans. Incredible waffles each time even with changing my ingredients. Easy clean up and stores well (standing up in my pantry). Those who complain it falls over make sure you really push the red tab up until it is snug. This is above a horizontal position (the tab).

If you want softer waffles put timer to 2 mins to 2 mins 10 seconds. If you want Crisp outside and soft inside 2 mins 30 seconds. Use 1 cup of batter! Also if you are cooking gluten free with rice flour cook 2 mins or they will over cook. 2 mins 10 seconds for a crips on the outside one.

Cleaning - I wipe down with a papper towel and then use a kitchen type paint brush to wipe out any crumbs. I suggest oiling it w/ veggie oil and heating up hot before first use to season it. Then season it after about ever 5th use.

Also if you are looking for a healthier alternative to syrup check out the new blue agave / maple syrup combinations. Not sure if Amazon sells them but I have found them at Trader Joes or you can make your own by mixing them 50/50. YUM! I bought my waffle maker here on Amazon.com and received it in 3 days and in perfect condition!

Customer Review: Perfect waffle every time
Summary: 5 Stars

1/09 Update: Forgot to mention the upright lock feature. This is not great. It does not stay in the lock position. When it dis-engages the machine falls left or right. I depend on it accordingly, and still love my Presto!

I shopped til I dropped and decided on this Presto. It's perfect in every way. Stores in upright position so it's very space efficient.
I PAM [spray] each time I use, and wipe with paper towel to clean.
This puppy makes big waffles! Plan on 2-3 waffles per recipe.

Next, I plan to substitute hash browns for the oats in the batter [potatoes are a good friend to my low cholesterol diet].

Customer Review: Great waffle maker and worth every cent!
Summary: 5 Stars

I remembered having some great waffles at a hotel while visiting Hearst Castle, and since then, I've had the urge to splurge on a waffle maker and bring the experience home. During Black Friday, there were some cheap $10 waffle makers on sale, but I was too late as they all sold out by the time I got there (you know the story). In a way, it was a mixed blessing. Luckily, I did a little research online and all reviews pointed toward this waffle maker as being one of the best. After a few days of online research, I bit the bullet and ordered the Presto Flipside Waffle maker along with some Carbon Golden Malted Waffle Mix, spending quite a bit more than I originally expected to. Well, after making batches of waffles on several occasions, it was definitely money well spent! Every single time, the waffles came out crispy on the outside, moist and tender on the inside, and perfectly cooked, with a rich golden color! Definitely restaurant quality waffles! Spray a little non-stick cooking oil on the griddles once, and you're good to go. Throw a cup of batter into one side, close the griddle and flip. So easy, and in 3 minutes, you're in waffle heaven! Since then, I've gotten deeper into this waffle experience, and decided to go for some pure maple syrup instead of your usual Log Cabin stuff, making it a culinary experience every time! Buy one and get to waffle heaven!
