Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Presto 3510 FlipSide Belgian Waffle MakerCustomer Review: Almost Brainless to use... Summary: 5 Stars
I've tried about 5 different waffle makers through the years and was never happy with the results. Presto is a waffle maker that I am finally happy about! It makes waffles that are THICK, at least 1 inch, maybe 1-1/2 inches (I didn't measure and it doesn't state on the box or info), and 1 waffle is enough for me. I would eat at least 2 waffles with my other waffle makers since they were thinner, even though they were Belgian, so it is like making 2 waffles at once...I couldn't afford the double waffle makers, so I am pleased with this.
I made a homemade batter: 2 cups fresh ground wheat-berries, 1 Tablespoon baking powder, pinch of salt, 3 Tablespoons oil, 1 egg and enough milk to make a nice batter (I don't measure of follow recipes much). Oiled the hot waffle maker and put in about 3/4 cup batter, flipped it over and set the timer for 3 minutes. When it beeped, I had a perfect waffle!
There are no controls so just plug it in and it automatically heats up. Be sure to unplug it (or any appliance) when you are finished cooking. The only confusion I have is why a battery for the timer? Strange. The one thing you will have to remember is: SET THE TIMER. Yes, I kept forgetting after the first waffle and this is why it's 'almost' brainless. Otherwise, it makes great waffles. I bought a waffle mix that just arrived today and I will use it to make waffles tonight and see how it works with that. I use a pat of butter, jam or real maple syrup, and dig in for a delicious dinner some nights. Some friends like an egg on top. For the money, this is a great machine that I am happy I purchased.

Customer Review: After Decades of Searching, Finally!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Oh.My.God!!! Growing up, waffles were a staple for breakfast at least once a week. My mother had some ordinary-brand waffle maker that made great crispy browned waffles, and it worked and worked until, about 35 years ago (after I'd already left for college) it died. Ever since, she (and I) tried all sorts of electric waffle irons, and none of the new ones ever work nearly as well. Every 5 years someone would recommend something, we'd buy it but really, none of them were like the ones from the 60s -- not even the really expensive ones. I found this one here on Amazon a few months ago, but we didn't really need one so I "saved for later". Last week I needed to add something to an order for SSS, and the iron arrived today. It's still evening here, but I made a batch of waffle batter for the morning, and then my kids came sauntering by looking for dessert. So, what the heck, I decided to give it a test run. I set the timer for 6 minutes, but took a peek after 3 and a half -- and I could not believe my eyes. The waffle was already as brown as any of my myriad junky waffle irons get the waffles after 7 minutes. By the time I got a plate ready and grabbed a fork to pull the waffle out, it was 30 seconds later. The waffle was a deep dark brown, so crispy on the outside, and still moist on the inside (I use a very thin batter with yogurt & extra egg whites). 4 minutes is the magic number for us! My teenage kids, who are rarely effusive about any food, could not stop talking about how magnificent these were. As soon as we finished our feast, I knew what I had to do next: Send one immediately to my mother!
Customer Review: Eatin' lots of waffles....... : ) Summary: 4 Stars
Kids wanted belgian waffles, I didn't have much space for another counter-eating, single-task appliance-voila! Presto FlipSide Belgian Waffle maker!!!
Pros: stores upright so I can store it up against the backsplash and it doesn't take up any counter space, makes beautiful waffles after, through trial and error, you figure out the best cooking time, cleans easily, not too pricey but doesn't look cheap.
Cons: the battery operated timer is just silly. They should have either integrated the timer so it would run automatically when plugged in or left it off. I store the battery separate and put it in with each use, which annoys me. However, I really only use it to time the cooking of the first side, which I do for 15 sec. and flip it once it has completed beeping. After that, I wait until it starts smelling done. Yes, that is a little vague, but after a few tries, you'll know what I mean. The steam will lessen and it will almost smell as if they're burning. I also have found that, even though it's non-stick, if you oil each side a little before each use, the waffles release easier. I was afraid that the oil would make a cruddy build-up, but once it cools down I can easily wipe it clean. I wish the interior of the handle wasn't hollow as batter and crumbs get in there and can make clean-up a little more difficult.
Lastly, although I haven't had a problem with it, I wish they had not made the stay to hold the thing upright out of plastic.
Overall: great product that's getting lots of use at my house
Customer Review: Mystery Timer Design Revealed! Summary: 1 Stars
We bought this waffle iron due to the good reviews. It seemed a bit strange that the timer had it's own separate battery, but we figured we could live with that quirk.
After the iron arrived, we eagerly unpacked it and started cooking waffles! What a disappointment! Every waffle of every recipe we tried was either burnt to a crisp or not cooked enough. Cooking for the recommended 4 minutes resulted in charcoal. Cooking for less than 2.5 minutes resulted in overdone on the outside, uncooked on the inside.
After giving up for the night, we regrouped in the morning for another try. After getting the same results with yet more recipes, we were just about to give up, when we had the idea to unplug the iron 1 minute after putting in the batter, and leaving it unplugged for the duration of cooking the waffle (total cook time: 3.5 minutes). The brilliance of the dual power design of the waffle iron immediately became apparent! We could unplug the iron, but the timer would keep on going, telling us when the waffle was done! Reusing the power cord plug as a temperature control device is a simple and elegant solution - I'm surprised it has not been adopted by other manufacturers.
Despite being in awe of this marvel of engineering, we decided to return it.
UPDATE:
We decided to give this product another chance. When the new one arrived from Amazon, we had the same results. We returned it and purchased instead an UNO belgian waffle maker - work's like a charm.
Customer Review: Perfect waffles w/ easy clean up! Summary: 5 Stars
I recently received the Presto 03510 FlipSide Belgian Waffle Maker as a birthday gift. Excited to make Belgian Waffles I had it cleaned and ready to go the following Saturday morning.
As recommended I wiped it down with some oil, plugged it in and waited for it to heat up until ready as indicated on the display. Once ready I poured in just over 1 cup of batter, closed the maker and flipped it over. (This makes sure it coats both sides of the iron evenly) I then set the timer to 3 1/2 minutes and waited. As soon as the timer went off I opened up and voila! Beautiful golden brown Belgian waffles that didn't stick.
Clean up was easy and I REALLY like that it stores upright, it's a space saver I can appreciate. It does require 1 AAA battery for the timer, but it is included. I had looked at many waffle makers out there in every price range, but this has got to be the best value for your money.
*I would also like to recommend the following waffle mix that I received with this gift. Golden Malted Pancake & Waffle Flour, Original, 33-Ounce Cans (Pack of 3) Although it took a bit more time to make than some basic mixes because you have to add egg, water and melted butter, it was worth the extra effort! (And my family agrees)
