Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Presto 114316 04820 PopLite Hot Air Corn Popper

Customer Review: Prestigious Presto Popcorn Poppers...
Summary: 5 Stars

It should be no secret that Presto makes the de facto standard hot-air popcorn poppers. They've been doing it for decades, now.
And here's something interesting for you: I haven't even used this exact product. However, my popper is an old-school Presto "PopCornNow Plus" model probably from the mid eighties that I picked up used at a thrift shop. I can tell you that the product pictured above is pretty much a carbon copy of mine, right up to the shape of the butter tray. It's a no-brainer, really (If it ain't broke...).
I had played around with buying used kitchen appliances for fun to see if any would actually work, and you guessed it, the Presto was *the* first one to actually work. And to think that it only cost me $4.99...
So, to finish a long story, the popper worked great that evening and slammed a heap of wonderful white steamy popcorn into a rather large green bowl, after filling the 1/2 cup holding/butter tray with kernels. I also think it's noteworthy to mention that I used the generic bagged popcorn rather than the gourmet stuff. Even though my popper may be pushing twenty years, I would put it up against a new Toastmaster anyday.

Customer Review: air popper
Summary: 4 Stars

My daughter bought this air popper for me last Christmas, and it was a fun product. It only cooks a small amount of popcorn, so for our family of five, we pop two batches. Because this popper warms up super fast, your popcorn will get done quickly. Also, before you plug in your machine, be sure you have all your stuff in order, including the bowl you want your popcorn to land in after it's done popping. We use a huge Tupperware bowl, and while it's landing in the bowl, we pour small amounts of butter on the popcorn so that it's spread throughout the popcorn, and not just on the top of the bowl. We have never had problems with popcorn flying outside the bowl because we use a big bowl to catch the popcorn. We also divide the popcorn later into real popcorn bags that are disposable. The children enjoy having their own bags of popcorn as they watch a movie chosen for that night. We have a movie night every Friday where the kids pick three movies each, and we all vote on which one to watch. It's fun, and they love it when we make popcorn to top off the day. This is a low calorie way to each popcorn. It takes very little time to pop, and clean up is so easy!

Customer Review: Why has this gotten great reviews?
Summary: 3 Stars

More than a few of the reviews I've read on this indicate that consumers seem content to have hot kernels flying all over their kitchen from this popper. I cannot believe they haven't come up with a better design.

That being said, I prefer this design over the bowl-type popper, as 1) the popper stays clean since there is no butter in the inside popping area and 2) it's more compact and easier to find space for in a small or crowded kitchen and 3) you can more easily control the amount and placement of the butter.

I have used a strategy to keep the popcorn IN the bowl. Take a large kitchen dishtowel, and put the end of it under the butter bowl on top of the popper, then put the butter bowl on. Drape the towel over the bowl where the popcorn will land. This works pretty well. One would think, however, that the product designers would just improve the design. I DON'T enjoy cleaning up my kitchen and I am NOT going to stand there and watch things like a hawk...if I had to watch like a hawk, I'd make the popcorn over the stove.

The popcorn from this popper tastes really good though; it's nice and crispy.

Customer Review: A must have 4POPCORN lovers
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this product & it's a hit in my kitchen. Upon arrival it's been used every evening as my roommate loves popcorn & is dieting. Since it's a hot air popper there is no mess or fuss. Pops a huge bowl in no time.
Now I don't have to worry w/messy microwave bags leaking butter OR overload in caloric carbs.
I recommend this machine if you are a pop corn lover this is a must have! I was able to find specialty sprinkles for flavoring popcorn & some recipes that add flavor not fat.
It pops well & fast no kernels are left or have been found in bottom of bowl. It blows right into the bowl & clean up is effortless.
The popcorn is bland so you have to add something to give it a bit of taste if you're watching your waist. As in said above ideas {a sweet treat ive found is a lil bit of brown or powdered sugar w/cinnamon or apple pie spice*
If you're not counting calories & can afford to indulge in BUTTER
The cup upon the top of machine you can add butter in it & the heat melts it while it pops. So when it's done you can drizzle the melted butter on your popcorn.
Id say it's faster than microwave.

Customer Review: Quick Popper
Summary: 4 Stars

i bought the Presto PopLite 4820 to replace a 1978 Hamilton Beach Popaire which went super nova several years ago after many years of satisfaction. I believe the blower motor started to lose power and became unable to blow enough hot air out resulting in the interior turning cherry red one evening.
The Presto seems, after only two batches, to do an excellent job and exhibits none of the negative aspects which some complain of. So far a total of two popped kernels fell outside my popcorn bowl, all of the unpopped ones stayed inside, a total of 4 + 3 kernels remained inside unpopped, the cord did not overheat, I failed to detect a hint of plastic taste anywhere, the lid fits securely enough on the popper, I always have melted the butter in a separate little pan and I couldn't care less whether there is a power switch because I just plug the cord in when I want to use the popper and unplug it when I'm finished--just exactly the way I have always done with my West Bend Stir Crazy since 1988. I give the Presto 4 stars only because the somewhat slippery design of the cover makes it a little difficult to grasp. Picky, picky, picky.
