Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Presto 114316 04820 PopLite Hot Air Corn Popper

Customer Review: Great popcorn!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this item over a year ago and it's my second one! I love this thing. It makes great popcorn without any oils or butter etc. so if you are watching the calories, this is for you!
To address some of the problems some folks have....
If you have a 25$ machine for two years and it performs well for you, I cannot imagine being upset when having to buy a new one when the first one breaks. With the cost of labor etc. I would never even dream about trying to get it fixed. My first one lasted about 5 years, and never broke, just lost the pieces when I moved, so I tossed the base and got a new one.
This machine does kind of throw around the last few kernels of popcorn, so my solution is to unplug it when it's 99% popped and just dump those last few kernels out of it and into the garbage. By the nature of the way the machine is made, it does have to have a good deal of air blowing or the popped popcorn would never get out of the chute! I've never had it flying around the kitchen, but several of the hot unpopped kernels at the end have landed on my counter and they are HOT, so be careful when picking up to toss. :)
All in all, this thing is great, and the price is cheap really for a well made appliance that functions well and lasts, in my opinion, a long time with a lot of use.
So buy it, pop the corn and enjoy. :)

Customer Review: Just a fun machine, nice light popcorn fast
Summary: 5 Stars

I remeber a family friend had an air popper when I was a kid, one of the old originals, and the game was always to blow the top off of it. Well, the first thing that came to mind when I got my first appartment after college for warming gifts was an air popcorn popper, that was 7 years ago and 3 places later. I love this machine. I have a traditional popper as well, and their is always the microwave, but you never really realize how much oil is stuck to the kernal in traditional poppers. This machine makes popcorn fast and so light, it great to eat without anything. One thing is a caution at the end, if the last few kernals are not popping, when you stop the machine, take a second or two (using oven mits) to tilt the machine to drop the unpopped kernals out. Although usually their may be one or two only (does an excellent job) don't let the kernals burn on the hot grates, hard to clean up, and it smells. Also, at the end of the pop, it can get a bit crazy trying to catch the last few flying kernal the come shooting out the air flow, they even pop sometime outside the popper in the bowl. I find it fun, and kids would help by chaising them, so a few cheep seconds of entertainment for the family as well. So, if you like a light popcorn that is much healther, this is it. Presto has made this machine or a form of it for years, and they do it right. Enjoy

Customer Review: Excellent! Presto 08420 Popper makes perfect popcorn!
Summary: 5 Stars

We made our first batch of popcorn with this popper today, and we were so happy!! By adding the melted butter and pinch of salt and toss it, the popcorn came out even better than the one from Movie theater!! Easy to operate, easy to clean, only take 2 minutes to pop 1/2 cup of popcorn seeds into 4 quart of popcorn! You do need at least 4 quart container. At the beginning, very few unpopped seed will come out as the air blowing, but one it starts popping you will see the most perfectly popped popcorn!!
We were using the butter flavored microwave popcorn bag until one day I saw the news saying that the butter flavor one contains harmful chemical which will harm the human lungs while popping it in the microwave! Therefore, I gave up the microwave popcorn bag and started to place the popcorn seed in the covered pyrex glass bowl and microwave it. But it takes 6~7 minutes to pop only 2 quarts of popcorn and the popcorns are not popped completely, which are very small and some are even burned! After few times of this unpleasant popping experiences, I decided to buy some useful one. I have read most of the reviews and decided to buy this one. This popper and the 04821 one share the same instruction, so I am pretty sure they have the same function except the name. This one is cheaper but does the job perfectly!! We are so happy!

Customer Review: BEST POPPER ON THE MARKET!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have spent weeks going to stores and buying poppers only to find when I get them home that they don't have the strength to pop popcorn. The motors are so week that it takes forever for popcorn to start popping and then when it does, there is not enough force available to shoot the popcorn into the bowl, rather, you have to tip the popper and get the popcorn into the bowl that way.

I was so frustrated that I searched the web and spent hours reading reviews. This popper is the same popper as the Orval Reddenbocker machine but at a lesser price. I got it, opened it and immediately tried it and wow, I called my girlfriend and said "You've got to come over for some SUPER DUPER popcorn", we both laughed. She had been watching out for popcorn makers for me and the last one she sent me to buy was just a disaster; so we were both relieved.

This popcorn maker has a strong motor, it pops the popcorn very fast and it has enough power to shoot it into the bowl. I highly recommend it and would buy it again; I'm completely happy!

I also find that hot air poppers have been on the decline due to the use of microwave popcorn (which is actually very bad for you), so if you want a hot air popper, get it now before companies just stop making them completely.

Customer Review: Popcorn!
Summary: 5 Stars

Of all the ways to pop corn, air popping is my favorite. Of all the hot air poppers out there, this one seems best. Lesser models pump out smaller batches then overheat requiring a cool down period between batches. This popper pops up to a half cup of popcorn per batch. I haven't found the point at which this popper requires a cool down, but it's after two batches. That's quite a bit of popcorn at a time. Enough for a family, I would think.

I have two gripes. Like everyone else, I wish it had a power switch. I have a plug-in power switch that I just leave attached to the cord. Anything to avoid that big blue spark that leaps out at you whenever you unplug the thing.

My other gripe is with the butter melter. The manual says; "Refrigerated butter will not melt during the short popping period." So that's good news for all you folks that don't refrigerate your butter. Honestly, what good is that?

The cover must be cleaned by hand and not in the dishwasher, and the manual stresses that the cover should be allowed to cool on the popper to avoid "temporary malformation". It seems odd to me that a more heat resistant material wasn't used. So far, though, I've had no problems.

What I have had is a lot of tasty popcorn.
