Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Presto 05420 FryDaddy Electric Deep Fryer

Customer Review: No off switch?
Summary: 1 Stars

I owned one of these for years and never thought twice about it, until a few weeks ago when our power went out. Several hours later after the oil cooled I put the lid on, and of my own admission, did not think to unplug the fryer. Several more hours later, after the power came back on, I woke up to a strange oily smell, went downstairs and found that the fryer had turned back on, heated the oil and MELTED the lid! Talk about a fire hazard. The thing has no OFF switch... if it's plugged in... it's on. The next morning it went right in the trash.

Customer Review: This fryer works pretty good!
Summary: 5 Stars

Many years ago I had something like a Frydaddy. I remember it working well but you couldn't let anything touch against the outside or it would burn/melt. When I threw it (during a diet) I decided to heat oil in pans and did that for a couple decades. For the last 2 years I've researched every type of fancy deep fryer on the market. I actually would like a "cool zone" unit with filters and so on. But I bought the Frydaddy. It works great. Throw some fries in there. When it cools off stick the cover on and put it back in the cupboard. Simple.

Customer Review: Too small and broke down quickly
Summary: 1 Stars

The fryer is very small, so as you cook subsequent batches, the previous batches gets cold. It's very basic: no temperature control, no indicator light for when it has reached the correct temperature, no basket (just a wide slotted spoon) and no insulation, so you do have to be careful around it. That would have all been OK for the occasional deep fryer user like myself except for something so basic, you would think there wouldn't be much that could go wrong with it. However I only used it about 10 times before it stopped working completely.

Customer Review: Great Product
Summary: 4 Stars

I liked my Fry Daddy so much, I purchased an additional one for my mother. I generally use it to make hand-cut fries, but I also make Ore-Ida fries in it. Similarly, I've used the Fry Daddy to cook everything from microwavable burritos, to chicken nuggets, and even funnel cakes and homemade doughnuts.

My only complaint is that it does not come with a splatter guard and it is difficult to clean (It cannot be submerged in water). I have had my Fry Daddy for five years now, and I would certainly purchase one again.

Customer Review: DO NOT get this for fried chicken.
Summary: 3 Stars

It runs about 25 degrees too hot. The breading will be way too dark by the time the meat is thoroughly cooked. I had to learn that the hard way. The people saying they're cooking wings must be using frozen pre-cooked wings or something. Egg rolls and chimichangas didn't come out great in this thing either. Everything else has been fine. I'd only use this unit for small things that don't require a lot of cooking time like fritters or seafood. Also, don't put the lid on until the unit is cooled down, or else it will melt.
