Customer Review: Does its job at low price

As many have said, this is a great item for the price. Deep fried foods are a comfort food for my family. One of the keys to fried foods that aren't greasy is correct temperature. If the fat temperature is too low, the food will absorb more fat than necessary. In the past I'd fry in a deep pot, such as a tall dutch oven, or a wide wok. The dutch oven used a lot of oil. The wok while using not much oil resulted in lots of spatter.
The fry daddy is doing its job. Just 4 cups of oil... about a quarter of the height of the fryer. As a result, minimal spatter. Of course, deep frying does release small oil particles into the air--so either place it under or close to your range hood at high exhaust to minimize the odor. Or fry outside on an appropriate and safe surface/area... That is somewhere not exposed to weather; on a study surface; where it won't get tripped over or knocked over!
Now, holding only a quart of fat indicates that you will not be able to fry 4 bone-in chicken breasts at once! You will need to do batches or adjust your prep. I cut up the chicken into smaller pieces, e.g., bone-in half breasts into 3 pieces. The smaller pieces will cook more quickly and fit into this fryer more efficiently.
I've only had the fryer for a week and have fried more than usual! One of the great things about deep frying is how fast food cooks. Surrounded by fat at 375 degrees, the liquid fat quickly transfers temperature to the food. Fried chicken was great, as were fries, tater tots and asian dumplings and potstickers. I don't think the potstickers were more fatty than with traditional cooking method of pan frying.
All in all, I'm very happy with the purchase. I'm sure the $50 and up fryers are great... but for $20 this one completely suits my needs.
