Customer Review: Big Improvement Over The Bacon Trays!

I have had two of the flat bacon trays, one round and one oblong. Neither could cook the amount of bacon that this will. It is a solid product and, of all things, made in the USA. Several reviews complain the bacon came out too crisp etc. That will happen with any of these if you cook it too long. Someone complained that it took too long, that is due to a low power microwave. If you have a standard Microwave this will undoubtedly impress you. Storage is great, it comes apart and stores in the base of the unit. Can be cleaned in the dishwasher which always makes life a little easier. The bacon comes out done more evenly due to the relatively small footprint. Just had to give this five stars because it is so much better than what I have used for years. Oh, one other thing that is just great, the bacon can be removed while it is untouchable hot simply by slipping a knife between the clear plastic "tent" pieces and lifting out. We got away from microwave bacon for a while because it didn't taste as good as when I cooked it in a pan. Finally, we decided to give it another shot and, after looking at reviews on Amazon, chose this one. And, it is AWESOME. Easy to clean (no little ridges to get in between), and makes amazing bacon, and I really like the fact that the handles on the side of the base don't get so hot - you can take it out of the microwave without oven mitts. Plus, because of the design, the fat drips down off the bacon, making it at least a little healthier (yes, I'm aware of the irony of looking at degrees of "healthiness" on bacon) And, you can get 8 or 10 slices done at once. As good as in the pan. Two small drawbacks, not enough to take away a star: 1) the bacon comes out in a "U" shape - looks a little odd, but doesn't matter as far as taste, and 2) it's got a bunch of pieces to it, so it takes up more room in the dishwasher than your standard microwave bacon rack. I bought the WowBacon microwave cooker first because it was fully enclosed, meaning less spatter--but the WowBacon began disintegrating after ten uses or so and I never heard back from the company.
While the Presto Microwave Bacon Cooker may be cheaper in price, the materials are a lot sturdier, having held up flawlessly after several days' use. The "tents" are flexible but stable so they don't lose their shape from the heat, and the base withstands the hot grease astoundingly well. Half a paper towel covers most of the spatter, so it's less wasteful than dish-nuking (which requires a full towel or more) and only minor clean-up remains. Oh, if only it came with a cap...then I could give it a full five stars!
So remember, the more expensive item isn't always the best one! We'll see how the Presto cooker holds up under daily use. So far, so good! I'll keep you posted!

Works best in a 900+ microwave. Used this product in a small 700 watt microwave and it took 10 minutes before the bacon was eatable. Cooked the same bacon in a 1100 watt microwave and the cooking time was reduce to 4 minutes. Nice and crip. Love the fact that the bacon isn't sitting on six folded paper towels to soak up the greese makes this product worth buying. But I do recommend putting paper towels in the bottom to soak up the greese if your not planning to use it later for cooking. I now enjoy bacon on a daily basis. Plus its easy to clean. Just pop it in the dishwasher on the top rack and it come out sparkling clean. Easy to store and a must have product. I highly recommend this product to everyone. Finally got the presto Microwave cooker after reading very good reviews.
I use only extra thick bacon and will often times purchase 3-4 lbs at Sams or Costco for a fabulous bargain price. I like to cook it all up at once to about 3/4 done then reserve or even course chop in my magic bullet blender to keep available for dishes and toppings. Cooks 8 huge slices at a time with no fuss and very little muss. It always cooks even and I'm convinced that the finished product retains considerably less bacon grease than when cooked regularly. Cleans up in the top rack of my dishwasher. Best of all - once you know how it cooks in your own microwave you can put it on (in my case for 11 minutes on high) and walk away and come back when your ready. Saves me much time and energy and fromm constantly having to standing over the cooking process.
