Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Presto 04830 PowerPop Microwave Multi-PopperCustomer Review: Best Popper Ever! Summary: 5 Stars
I always read other people's reviews but hardly ever leave one for others to read. But I had to leave one on this popcorn popper! I have used this popper for 13 years now! I also don't use oil so the cardboard insert lasts many times. I think I put a new insert in about once a month. We make a lot of popcorn though...so the insert really gets used before I replace it! Sometimes we'll use the popper three times a week and make two or three batches when we make it! So this popper has withstood the test of time! We also have lived overseas a couple of times in the last 13 years. This popper is great because you don't have to worry about 110v versus 220v! Just stick it in the microwave and you have popcorn under 3 minutes! You won't regret buying this popper! Just remember to buy several packages of inserts at the same time and you won't have to buy any for a very long time!
Customer Review: Extremely convenient, works great! Summary: 5 Stars
I *love* this device! I experimented with it in my particular microwave and learned that the standard load of 1/3 cup of popcorn (you can use *any* kind) cooks perfectly at 3 minutes, 12 seconds. Any less than that, and some of the kernels don't pop. Any more than that and some kernels begin to burn. The directions say you can use oil inside it, but I don't, because I want the little cardboard inserts to last a long time. I empty the popcorn into a different bowl, then I melt butter in the microwave (3 tbsp. is about right), pour it over the popcorn, add salt and stir well. You can also pour anything else you want over the popcorn, like parmesan or other dried, grated cheese, or herbs and spices. The popcorn this device produces is really, really tasty. Far better than that from microwave popcorn packets, and without the horribly unhealthy trans fats they add to them, too.

Because of all the talk about how bad microwave popcorn in the bag was for you (chemicals, etc.) I was looking for an alternative. I tried air popped and just wasn't satisfied with the flavor(less) of air pop. And I couldn't get the salt/pepper to stick to the popcorn even after I sprayed it with cooking spray. So I decided to try this. It's one of my favorite kitchen gadgets now. I will need to buy the inserts in bulk I use it so much. And it gives you so many options. Just put in the oil of your choice (or none) and put the salt right in there with the oil and kernels. My favorite is to add black pepper. And it comes out perfect every time. Everyone loves it. With a little experimentation on how long to pop it for (2:50 in my microwave), it comes out great everytime with hardly any kernels unpopped. If you love popcorn like me, this is a must have.
Customer Review: Beats the heck out of using an electric air popper... Summary: 4 Stars
Pops nearly all the kernels. Tried it with and without oil. Prefer without in part because I'm trying to keep it low fat, but the thought of only getting one use out of the insert really bugs me. If you pop without oil, you can re-use it. (How many times, it's too early to tell.)
I burned the popcorn the first time, but knew this was likely. You just have to experiment with your microwave. 2 minutes is plenty of time for microwave. A good guide is how long it takes your oven to pop a microwave bagged popcorn.
You just want to stop when there's about a 2 second delay between pops. Better to have more unpopped kernals than burned popcorn. Once it burns, it pretty much ruins the whole batch.
Four stars is because of the need for inserts. Whatever is needed to make the unit work well should be built in. Highly recommend.
Customer Review: Awesome popper! Summary: 5 Stars
Stumbled across one of these in a the original (if somewhat beat-up) box at a local tag sale. Seeing that everything was all there (and still sealed in plastic) I really didn't have high expectations. I figured it must have been an un-wanted present and if it had been any good they would have opened it and at least given it a test run, but for .25 I took it home anyways.
After reading the directions and giving it a quick wash & dry, I had my popcorn out and was ready to put it to the test. All I can say is that this thing is AMAZING! It popped almost every last kernal. It works alot better than those microwave bags, and the popcorn pops up fluffier and tastes so much better. We love this thing and use it on a frequent basis. I'm glad to find out they still make it and that I can find the pads for it without a problem at Amazon.
