Customer Review: Popcorn Freak Says, Wow!

I really am a Popcorn Freak (I usually make it at least once a day) and I really did say, "Wow!"
I've cooked popcorn many ways, many times, and am pretty much a popcorn gourmet by now. I experiment. I shop around. I didn't expect a lot from this product but I had actually ruined my saucepan by cooking popcorn and wanted a designated popper that would handle both a very small amount of oil or none at all (I usually cook in 1 tbs oil). This was the only one I found that would do that.
If you've ever seen 'Real Genius,' that's pretty much how this popper operates, which means two things:
1. How it cooks the corn mostly depends on how hot or cold the oven and popper already are, or how the oven parts are calibrated. These things will cause the heat to focus exactly right, or not quite properly, when you pop.
2. The heat when you use the popper is extremely focused, laser-like, so your popcorn retains more natural corn taste than in an air popper and pops more efficiently with less oil -- better functioning than a bag of lard (microwave) and better than a saucepan.
I've popped both close and far apart, with oil and without, and here are a few points inspired by the FAQs from the various comment sites I initially searched:
1. This popper does in fact pop 3 quarts (1/3 cup of kernels is technically a single serving, but this is a reasonable amount for two).
2. The time it takes to pop depends on your microwave and how hot the oven and popper are before you cook. Serial batches will work, but the second batch will take more time. Cooking at work in a public oven at lunch time probably won't work well because of the amount of oven use.
3. A brown spot in the middle of the cup after popping is normal. The cup will still continue to cook for multiple turns. The directions go into this.
4. For best results, wipe/clean the popper after each use. Don't cook in a dirty oven. The directions go into this.
5. The product is clear, thin plastic. This is not because it is of suspiciously cheap design, but because the material allows the heat to work properly.
6. The exacts of popping results also depend on your type of kernels as well as the already mentioned heat. The directions go into this. Big vs small, fresh vs old.
7. Yes, you do have to buy the paper inserts, but this is not to scam you of money. Much food cooks with the use of either foil in the oven or crisper paper in the microwave. It's part of the physics of the microwave. At $2.15 (an average price for the 8-cup cup packs), each use, even if adding up to less than the directions claim, is perhaps worth .025. If you buy a regular 2 lb bag of corn, and mine cost about $1.30, that's less than a penny for each 3 quart bowl of popcorn.
This product is great. Easy to clean, store, and use. Great tasting popcorn quickly with no mess. Versatile. Many of the lower rated reviews (mostly from other sites, not here) appear not to have read the directions or not know how microwaves work with the product. Price per full bowl averages out to less than a penny each. Enjoy!
