Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Presto 03510 FlipSide Belgian Waffle MakerCustomer Review: I love this lil thing! Summary: 5 Stars
This is the perfect waffle maker for the average family that enjoys the occasional waffle. It takes up so little space and is easy to use. I have made everything from plain to macadamia chocolate chip waffles in it and all came out perfectly. It succeeds in the elusive texture that is vital in a good waffle: crisp outside but soft and fluffy inside. Yum! I have found that greasing prior to adding the batter is not even needed, they come out very easily (i usually add a little butter for flavor). My one complaint would be that the timer is basically useless, the time suggested in the manual would have burned my waffles and if it even gets splattered with a little water while cleaning it malfunctions for a while. I just wait until I can smell the waffle and there is a reduction in the steam coming out. Perfect! Can't beat the price either.
Customer Review: The PERFECT Waffle maker!! Summary: 5 Stars
I was so excited the morning I used this waffle maker for the first time. The very first waffle and the next 50 and counting were perfect. I have tried three different waffle makers, including one sold at William and Sonoma. Of the three this one is the only one that actually used the flip technology. I found that timing the waffles for 4 minutes made the perfect light and crisp waffle. The waffles never stuck to the iron either. Just remember though, part of making the perfect waffle is having a good recipe and not over mixing the batter; the other part is having the right tools. The Presto 3510 FlipSide Belgine Waffle Maker is the right tool. We've had guests over every morning that we make waffles. Each guest that we've had over has gotten their own Presto 3510 FlipSide Belgine Waffle Maker. I think that this machine clearly sells itself.
Customer Review: Disappointing Summary: 2 Stars
I had a Waring Pro waffle maker for a few years but had used it only occasionally. Needless to say I was very disappointed when I noticed the non-stick finish beginning to peel. So with all the good reviews on this model I figured for half the money, I'd buy this one. I am so sorry I did. There is just no comparison between the two. This Presto model doesn't cook the waffles evenly, the steam was still escaping on one even though I thought it had been cooking long enough. Finally after 4 minutes or so, I went ahead and opened the waffle maker ... the waffle was burned (and steam was still escaping). The waffles are thicker than those made in the Waring Pro, but the texture is just not as good. I realize there is a big difference in money between the two models, but I'm donating this one to Goodwill and will buy another Waring Pro.
Customer Review: great price Summary: 5 Stars
Some really good reviews have already been written which helped me decide to buy. I will address some of the negative things said. I don't know what the reviewer who was concerned about turning it one or way or the other for stability was talking about (turn it either way and it works great). The timer doesn't turn the unit off because it isn't magically done in an exact number of minutes (same reason kitchen timers don't turn the oven off). It is a tool and you get better results if you can use the tool properly (a robot is the closest thing to a tool that does not need a good operator to get good results). Experimentation will teach you how to tell when you have enough batter, etc. (note: I found that holding the handle together for a few seconds after flipping it helps keep the shape). Thanks, Presto, for a low price, great tool.
Customer Review: Cheap plastic parts, and some of the finish was worn off when delivered. Summary: 2 Stars
It makes a good waffle. But as many others here have mentioned, you have to keep an eye on it as it does not shut off or beep when ready. The battery operated timer is very weird. The black finish was noticeably worn-off at several places on the product. I'm guessing that the battery cover will probably be the first to break off. And when we try to lock it in the vertical position for storage, it doesn't stay closed and looks unsightly. We use a rubberband to keep it closed. I'm thinking about returning it, but not sure if it's worth the trouble. You know, it's always a bit stressful with Amazon, having to wait up to 2 months to see the credit.
It is extremely flimsy and looks like it will break apart any minute, but it does make good waffles, and they slip out so easily with no mess. But again, very, very cheaply made.
