I've never had a salad shooter before, and since I hate shredding cabbage and such with a knife, I decided to get one. This one is easy to use and easy to clean which is fantastic! The only thing I find a little disappointing is that the input area for what you are shredding is a bit narrow. I have to do more cutting of a head of cabbage than I think I ought to have to do just to get the cabbage into the machine for shredding. I bought this product for one main reason, I hate shredding cheese and I wanted something to do the work for me. This product does exactly that. Just slide the cheese down the shoot and a couple seconds later you have a mound of shredded cheese, with an absolute minimal amount of work.
Pros: shreds cheese easily and quickly, easy to clean and put together
Cons: old design, must be the orininal. cuts other items well, but I'm not too impressed.

This is the second saladshooter that I've owned. The first one I received used from my mom and that one lasted me over 15 years. When the motor finally burned out, I bought the new one and I expect this one to last another 20 years. They work great for a quick little shred of this or that. It's easy to put together, use, clean and take apart. Because there is virtually no assembly time, it's convenient to use, even if just for one ounce of cheese for an omlete.Customer Review: Also makes great ice cream toppings

Everyone is right! These last for years even if used on a daily basis. It does so much more than just grate cheese and slice vegetables. Use it for making bread crumbs, graham cracker crumbs, slicing M & M's and other candies for ice cream topping, etc. Please check out Presto's [...] for 50 creative ways to use your salad shooter. Even if you only use it for a few things, it is worth purchasing as clean up is a breeze and it does not require much storage space.Customer Review: Can't live without it!

I had one of these Salad Shooters for years and used it so much, one of the graters wore out. Foolishly, I threw the grater and the Salad Shooter in the garbage thinking I could easily find a new one at the store. Needless to say, I went out of my mind looking for a new one till I found one on Amazon. I had gotten so used to using it, that I couldn't live without it. This time, I am going to order extra graters from the company so I don't make the same mistake.
