I have made coffee for 3 days with this maker. The first thing that was great is that there are really only a few parts. The parts are all stainless steel so there is no plastic inside to melt or leach chemicals into your water. I bought the little disc paper filters (grocery store) and they work like a charm. I read another review where they said to just put a few drops of water onto the filter once in the basket and seal it with your finger. That worked like a charm and there was no coffee dust or grounds at all in my piping HOT wonderful tasting coffee. I will never use a drip coffee maker again. I had gotten so frustrated with buying coffee makers every year that I finally remembered my grandmother having a percolator and using it for years. All the coffee-makers I've used have been drip-style. I drank percolated coffee with my friend for a month before deciding to buy one of these for use at work. It's simple, easy to use, and all the components that touch the coffee are steel. I love it so much I bought another one to replace my drip coffee maker at home as well. I'll never go back.
I've used the wrap-around style filters and the regular super-market filters (just tear a hole in the center as you put it on like the other reviewers recommend). I haven't found a difference in taste and very few grinds make it through the torn hole if you do it right.
Other reviewers also have a good recommendation to use a brush to clean the small holes in the filter container.

I've owned this percolator for over a year. I remember my mother having one when I was little so I thought I would purchase one after having many coffee makers that were not making great coffee. You might think the quality of the coffee I was using may to blame, but that is not the case. This percolator makes great tasting coffee. It keeps it super hot even after sitting for awhile. My friends always comment about the 'antique' coffee maker, but they always look forward to a cup when they come over. I would highly recommend this percolator.
The only con is that it's a pain in the neck to clean it as there are many parts. It's not quick like washing a coffee pot. You also have to be careful not to get the carafe wet on the outside when cleaning.

Just received this coffee pot today, and am somewhat disappointed. It's much thinner metal than the coffee pots we had back in the 50s and 60s, and there's no indicator on the handle side like there used to be, so you know how much water and/or coffee is in the pot. Nor does it have that a little glass thingy at the top so you can see the coffee percolate. We used a filter, but coffee grounds were all over the top of the basket when we opened it.
Plus, the lid fits so tight that it's hard to remove. We've opened it twice, and the basket and lid popped up and moved out of place both times.
All things considered, I wouldn't buy this coffeemaker again. In fact, I may be looking for a replacement.

I recently bought a GE percolator from Walmart and the basket clogged after a few uses. It was also extremely loud, we thought it was trying to take off into orbit. I read the reviews on the Presto and bought it because it seems reliable. I've only been using it for about a week now. It takes alot longer than the GE maker to perk, but it is alot quieter. Also, the construction of the basket is a smooth bottom with pin holes. The GE had what looks to be little tiny metal bridges on it's basket bottom, and those were what got clogged and was a real hassle to clean(had to use a toothbrush!). The Presto is a snap to clean and is quiet. We don't mind waiting a little longer for the coffee. Hope it lasts a long time.....
