Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Presto 01362 6-Quart Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker

Customer Review: Like it much!
Summary: 4 Stars

I would have given it five stars, but the handle feels just a little flimsy, seeing as how you have to lift the not-insubstantial-weight of the pot with it. I'm hoping it will hold up, despite my misgivings... Aside from that, I love this cooker. In my experience, the little cooking guide that comes with it is useful, but you'll have to mess around with times a bit to figure out what works best. Though the guide doesn't give cooking times for most unsoaked beans, you CAN cook them that way...however, the resulting gas will make you pay wretchedly for skipping that step! I've decided not to cook lima beans in this cooker...the foaming out past the regulator was too nerve-wracking. Cooking potatoes for mashing is a five minute snap (after the initial pressure-build time), and sweet potatoes cooked in this pot were especially flavorful. Would I buy this again? Sure would.

Customer Review: Very good product
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had the 4 quart pressure cooker for quite some time, and based on its performance, I purchased the 6 quart for myself and one for my daughter as well. We are very pleased. This is a good product, but it is important to read and follow the instructions for use and care in order to get the most satisfactory results. I was raised with Presto pressure cookers, and have used others. None have performed better, in my opinion. The reasonable price is an added bonus.

5/10/08: Presto offers a stainless steel steamer basket and a glass lid as optional accessories that fit both their 4 qt. and 6 qt. pressure cookers. I purchased the steamer for my daughter and myself, and the lid for myself. These products have been welcome additions to our cooking tools. Do not be afraid to spend the extra money for them...they are well worth it!

Customer Review: Works Great but Cheap Steel
Summary: 4 Stars

This is the 3rd pressure cooker I have had. My previous one was also a presto. Although this pressure cooker works perfectly, the issues that many reviewers have mentioned regarding the metal base is, in fact, true.

Whatever steel alloy they used for the base is not of high quality. Mine has not distorted (yet) but it shows signs of molecular stress. The shiny silver steel base has turned purple (rainbow of colors really) after the first use. The discoloration is not food staining or burning but is caused by changes to crystaline structure of the metal itself. This phenomenon has not effected the cooking efficiency or function of the pressure cooker yet but I am concerned.

This is in contrast to my previous presto pressure cooker which did not discolor but distorted instead. Wierd. Good pressure cooker otherwise.

Customer Review: Presto Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker
Summary: 5 Stars

I have not yet had a chance to use my new pressure cooker, but have had Presto Pressure Cookers for the last 30 years. My last one after I cooked something in it I couldn't get the cover off, so had a relative try to open it so that I could get my dinner out. He couldn't open it either, so he resorted to getting a hammer and hammering the handle, which broke in several pieces, therefore I had to purchase a new pressure cooker.

I purchased an identical one for my daughter several months ago through Amazon and she uses it constantly. I don't cook that often any more, so I put it unused in my cupboard, but intend to use it next week for a pot luck dinner. I know it is great from past experience, and from my daughter's comments every time she uses hers. Great product, and Amazon had a great price. I am very satisfied.

Customer Review: Great Cooker!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this cooker for about 2 months and I L..O..V..E..it. I've never used another pressure cooker so I can't compare it to anything else, but it does exactly what I needed it to do...which is to save me time, and conserve energy. I can cook sweet potatoes in five minutes, artichoke in eleven minutes, chickpeas in 10 minutes....Amazing! There is no sign of any rusting, as one of the previous reviewers stated. Maybe the previous reviewer is leaving it in a sink full of water for days at a time? It's hard to imagine what it would take to make stainless steel rust. I have followed the guidlines for cooking times and have found that the directions are very thorough and well researched (i.e...when you must use a bowl inside pan...how full you can fill it for different foods, cooking times, etc...)

Very Happy!!!
