Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Presto 01362 6-Quart Stainless Steel Pressure CookerCustomer Review: EXCELLENT PRESTO COOKER Summary: 5 Stars
I was pleased with the easy assembly required to attach the handles. All you need is a Phlip's screwdriver, and the cooker's ready to use! Very easy assembly! Once the handles are attached, it's ready to use. I appreciated the flier in the box, indicating that you need to apply slight pressure on top of the lid to fully lock it into place. The first time I used it to cook pinto beans (after an all night soaking), it took a mere 8 minutes of cooking, under pressure, and the beans were cooked! Wow! Quite a change for me, as I had previously taken 3 hours to cook some particularly tough beans! What a savings it was in time, electricity and effort! I am so spoiled now with his fantastic pressure cooker! I just love it...and why??? It saves me time, money and effort, and who wouldn't want that in these economic times?? Why spend 3 hours cooking when you can spend 8 or 7 minutes cooking, and the beans were so tasty and nutritious!
Customer Review: Good value and good quality Summary: 5 Stars
This seems to be a high quality product at a very reasonable price. It cooks less expensive cuts of beef (stew meat, chuck roast, corned beef) to mouth watering tenderness in a fraction of the time required in either an oven or slow cooker. It quickly cooks two or three pounds of chicken for salads, sandwiches, or freezing. Cook a pork roast with your favorite barbeque sauce in 30-45 minutes and enjoy pulled pork sandwiches infused with the flavor of the sauce. This would be a great tool for the cook who likes make- ahead meals and stocking the freezer for quick-reheating weekday dinners. Get the stainless steel model to avoid the reaction of aluminum to acidic foods. Eventually you will be glad you did.
The clad base is very heavy so I wouldn't recommend using the pan for pasta or vegetables but if you have strong wrists and arms you could do this. Other lids are available from Presto.
Customer Review: HAPPY LITTLE PRESSURE COOKER Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this model based entirely upon checking all the reviews of all the different pressure cookers--and that this one is stainless steel. I also like the extra handle opposite the locking handles.
This little pressure cooker is a joy. The booklet of directions is less of a joy because it is poorly organized, so the information that one must add a tablespoon of oil, must not go past the line inside, how to open, etc. does not all appear in a logical sequence or even in the same place.
Still, it is a happy addition to our lives. After using this for some months, and following the directions, it burned a pot of beans. I had put in the listed amount of water, oil, under the line, etc. so I ignored the smell of burning. Never do that. The inside was burned on beans. It seemed a disaster. Then a friend spent 15 minutes and scrubbed it back to its shiny original shape.
Customer Review: I've cooked with an "olla de presión" for 35 years, and this is the best I've used Summary: 5 Stars
I've always used aluminum pressure cookers, but stainless steel is the best to use. It gives your stove top a professional appearance. An aluminum finish dulls after six months and corrodes from the combination of high pressure, temperature, and an acidic/salty internal environment, which also causes toxic aluminum to leach into foods. I'm also very pleased with Amazon's free delivery, which I was told would take ten days but took only two. I called all over Los Angeles to find a Presto pressure cooker, and the major department stores, which used to carry them, only carry very expensive foreign brands, whose replacement parts, like the sealing ring and safety valve, are nearly impossible to find. The price I paid for this stainless Presto model is less than what I paid for a smaller, aluminum model several years ago at a retail store. Goodbye bricks and mortar, hello online shopping !
Customer Review: Great no frills pressure cooker!! Summary: 4 Stars
My mother bought me this nearly exact cooker many years ago, and it got lost in a move about 5 years ago. I just now replaced it. I had used my old one for about 7 years and it was fine. No problems with my old one with the stainless steel either.
I got this NEW one today, and washed it and peeled about 3-4 lbs potatoes and sliced 3/4 in thick, and added 2 cups water, two tbsp dried onion flakes, pepper, and garlic powder. 16 minutes later, drained the water off and used my handy dandy mixer and had the best creamiest fluffiest mashed potatoes ever. I DON'T KNOW HOW I GOT ALONG WITHOUT IT THESE PAST FIVE YEARS!! I CAN'T WAIT TO USE IT OFTEN!!
THE BOTTOM LINE:
Inexpensive,
functions very well,
looks nice,
parts easy to order, (Walmart sells parts for it I heard)
easy to clean,
has two handles,
AAA+++ for price and function.
