Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Presto 01362 6-Quart Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker

Customer Review: I don't write many reviews, but This is one Fantastic Machine!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I went through the reviews of all the pressure cookers at Amazon and other sites. I like to make an informed decision. I finally took the chance on this one based on the Presto Company founded in 1905. I figure they will be around when I need a part. I found I can buy all parts for this at gopresto.com and I did buy an extra glass lid for this model for $13.99 delivered. Now that it's home I was able to get rid of 2 old aluminum pressure cookers and an aluminum stock pot that I can't get parts for since those companies are out of business. I'm snowed in at the house now and I go back and forth to the kitchen playing with one well made piece of machinery. I have plenty of room in the cabinet since it replaced all those old pots. The exact dimensions are 8 1/4" H x 9 3/4" W x 17 1/4" L at handle. The lid is tricky which is one complaint I read. You have to use both hands when placing the lid on I think because it is so well made. Once you get the hang of it it is really a snap. I have a feeling this will be my last Pressure Cooker. : )

Customer Review: Save Gas and Electricity!
Summary: 4 Stars

Gas and electricity has gone up so much lately. Pressure cookers can help you save by making cooking a lot much faster. It comes with a compact user guide and a small cookbook.

Pressure cookers can be dangerous, so make sure to read the safety precautions. Never fill it more than 2/3 of its capacity. You cannot open the lid while it is still pressurized with the built-in precautionary lock, but the rocker valve can easily get toppled and extremely hot steam can escape through it.

Pros:
- Stainless steel. You do not want aluminum for health reasons.
- We have been using this for more than 5 years. We just have to replace the rubber gasket around the lid.
- Although not as cheap as we like it to be, if you compare it to other manufacturers, you still save some money.

Cons:
- The pressure valve rocker. Other pressure cookers (but more expensive) has a non-removable pressure valve. It is often get misplaced.
- The rocker makes quite a bit noise.

Customer Review: Three generations and no complaints yet.
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this because I was sick of using cans. I've had the Presto 6-Quart Stainless Steel Pressure cooker for about a month. As of today I've cooked pinto beans, lentil, potatoes, beef roast, rice and garbanzo beans in it. Sometimes I have to use a little more time than the instructions says (like with garbanzo beans), sometimes I have to use a little less time than the instructions says (like lentils: in three minutes the lentils become soup in the pressure cooker). I love it! My friends and family are so sick of me talking about this. I tried a beef roast recently in the cooker and it came out wonderful in 45 minutes. Life just got easier and healthier. The cooker works great and as long as you follow the instructions and make sure your lid is sealed before the pressure rises you're safe. Don't listen to the bad reviews people. My grandmother had something very similar to this, my mom had one like this and now I have one too. Three generations and no complaints yet.

Customer Review: Pressure cooking without any pressure
Summary: 5 Stars

I decided to buy a pressure cooker so I could try recipes from a friend's new pressure cooker cook book. I did so with some trepidation because I recalled an incident from childhood in which a pressure cooker exploded in our kitchen. I needn't have worried. The Presto pressure cooker is fantastic. It's solid construction gives you a sense of stability. It has safety features that I'm sure the one we used back in the late 1930s didn't have. The instructions on its use are clear and easy to follow. For me, this product literally removed the "pressure" I felt about tackling pressure cooking. Already I'm using it for much more than trying my friend's recipes, and it has proved to be a valuable addition to our kitchen. The six-quart size is ideal in my view for making soups and other dishes that can be refrigerated and used later.Presto 01362 6-Quart Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker

Customer Review: very nice pressure cooker
Summary: 5 Stars

I returned an 8 quart pressure cooker because it was just too large for the average sized family. I purchased the 6 quart size to replace the 8 quart. You have to put the handles on, but it only takes seconds. The pan works very well and comes with a small recipe booklet to help you get started using it. The only problem I have had is finding replacement gaskets for the lid. I live in a small mountain town (less than 800 population) and some things are hard to find; I'll look on the internet or take the lid with me when I go to a larger city. I would recommend this to someone who likes to cook and is willing to learn a new method or is limited on time because it really does save time. I made a really rich chicken broth in an hour, put the chicken, partially thawed, some onion, garlic, carrots and seasoning in the pot, brought it up to pressure and let it cook for an hour, strained and used.
NOTE: this is not for pressure canning.
