Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Presto 01362 6-Quart Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker

Customer Review: Excellent Stainless Steel Cooker
Summary: 5 Stars

First: I bought this to avoid getting aluminum in my food, so I was surprised that the cooking rack that came with it WAS ALUMINUM. So I called the customer service number on the box (1-800-877-0441) and explained to the CS Rep. that I bought the cooker because I didn't want aluminum in my food, but the rack was aluminum. She stated that it came that way. Then I asked:"So if someone buys your stainless steel cooker , you just let them 'assume' that the rack is stainless steel also?" She said that no, they had a stainless steel rack available, but that it normally cost $8, but she would send one out to me free of charge. I received it today. I suggest you take care of this when you first receive the product.

Second: The cooker comes unassembled. However, easy instructions for assembly with just a #2 phillip's screwdriver are included in the "Instructions and Recipes" manual that comes with it.

This cooker is taller and smaller in diameter than the same capacity aluminum cooker I bought many years ago, and it's not recommended for outdoor fires.

It has a thick bottom to spread the heat, and so far has done everything like a champ.

Customer Review: Looking to make fabulous meals in less time?
Summary: 5 Stars

I was spending about 2 hours on dinner every night to have good home cooked meals. Well.. I had enough of that so went on a mission... this is what I found...
This little 6 quart is perfect for dinner. The product arrived within just a few days in perfect shape. We have used it twice already. The first time I tested it on one of the worse cuts of beef that has a tendency to turn out tough. It was fork tender! Fantasic flavor, too! From start to finish it took about an hour. I made the gravy right in the pot, also. Then I took 4 bone in, skin on chicken breasts, couple carrots and celery stalks, bay leaf, water, couple garlic cloves and 1/2 onion. Brought heat up, cooked 12 minutes, strained, drained cooled, cleaned. Made a rue in the pot, added the broth and chopped chicken back into pot to heat back up. Served over biscuits. Delish! And yes, I said 12 minutes.. mind you, this is after it got up to the proper heat, which didn't take long in this small pot.
I love how we are getting back to basics with everything including pressure cooking! Years ago they used these great tools as time savers and we can do the same.

Customer Review: American Shines
Summary: 5 Stars

Am a strong believer in pressure cookers and have used them for many years. Have always used foreign made cookers because years ago they were better quality than the American made cookers. Have a Magefesa and several Fagors and started having quality and service problems with them (see my review under Fagor's 6qt. Splendid model). Finally, in desperation, decided to try a new American made Presto since they were now made of Stainless steel and had good ratings with Amazon. Got one on sale from Amazon with free shipping and received it lickety-split in great shape (thanks Amazon). Read the user's guide which walked me through an easy assembly and proceeded to cook a pot of beans. Wow! Such simplicity and everything worked great. Straight forward simplicity and as well engineered as one could ever expect and as a bonus, much easier to clean. Can't see what could possibly go wrong. One more thing that I was highly impressed with is the users guide for the Presto; it is super clear and easy to understand with nothing left to chance. Kudos to current American products for a now great cooker. If you like pressure cookers, give the Presto a try!!!

Customer Review: Herbed Chicken Was Absolutely Delicious
Summary: 5 Stars

This pressure cooker is our first one and our first time to cook with one. We used one of the recipes printed in the user's manual, Herbed Chicken. The recipe calls for basil, celery, oregano, parsley, onions, and garlic, along with other readily available ingredients. Total time for the meal to be ready from food preparation, to the pressure cooker building up to pressure, with the actual cooking time was about 15 minutes.

The Herbed Chicken was absolutely delicious. We can't wait to try another recipe. We also ordered 2 pressure cooker cookbooks. It really is satifying to own a fine and affordable cooking appliance such as this one in which we can cook delicious, nutritious meals that are prepared within 15 minutes. It was not difficult to use, and clean up was effortless and fast. We did read the user's manual carefully since this was our first time with one.

The price was very reasonable, and this pressure cooker has a 12 year warranty (according to the user's manual). Thanks Amazon for the fast delivery service, and thanks Presto for the fine pressure cooker. We look forward to using it on a weekly basis.

Customer Review: SaveWater! Save Time! Eat Healthy!
Summary: 5 Stars

Okay, I've been using the aluminum Presto 4qt I got as a wedding gift since l974, so the fact that I am truly impressed with all the updated features may be a decade late or so. I bought this 6 qt one because it was on sale at the same price as the 4 qt and am very happy I did. The extra size I find I use even though I only cook for two slim people, so don't use a lot of food.

My original Presto was still using the original rings and seals and had only lately started to leak a bit. Think of that: seals over 30 years old and in an arid climate (New Mexico and Arizona) all those years. And I wanted to avoid the aluminum. In l974 it was cutting edge, there has been a lot of info since then that I took into consideration (althought I notice Presto still offers the aluminum version). The one draw back is this is heavier than the aluminum but like my husband said yesterday as he was cleaning this: this is one fine piece of machinery and a joy to see in an age of cheap manufacturing ethics. Save water!
