Awesome is not a term I would normally use for a potato ricer, but this thing is, well, AWESOME! It is VERY easy to use unless you happen to be a total weakling and don't have the strength of a 10-year old. I used the finest screen, loaded the hopper to the top and they all went through with very little effort (I used peeled and steamed Yukon Gold potatoes). If someone is having a hard time pressing the potatoes through, and the result actually has lumps, then you're not cooking the potatoes enough; there's no way you should have any lumps after using this ricer.
The pot lid grooves are pretty cool for having some way to set the thing down on top of the bowl, and would be a good option for applying extra leverage - but I didn't need it for that with the Yukon Gold's (maybe Russets?). Again, the potatoes must be properly cooked. I steam mine for 10 min. and then rinse through cold water, and then steam again for 15-20 minutes. A paring knife should easily slip through the center of the potato.
If you are feeding a large family or having guests over you should understand that it takes time to run all the potatoes through and that they are exposed to a lot of air as they pass through the ricer - they cool down very quickly. You can, however, pop them in the microwave briefly to warm before serving.
It's brand new, so I don't know how long it will last, but right now I'm very pleased with the quality and price. Buy it!
