Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Pomerantz Wine Wizard Tabletop Wine Opener, Black/ChromeCustomer Review: What's wrong with plastic? Summary: 5 Stars
I bought one of these without the stand over a year ago and have enjoyed it very much. So, I decided to try this one with a stand. I've tried it only a few times, but so far it works great. Another reviewer talked a lot about the cheap materials but said nothing about how it works. Actually, it doesn't look that bad, either. The stand is of sturdy plastic, but the gears and most other moving parts are of a chrome-covered metal. And it has some nice little extras. For example, there's a suction cup on the bottom that attaches the stand to a smooth surface, and the metal clamps have embedded rubber grips. All in all, I think it'll stand up to a considerable amount of use. Even if it lasts just a few months, can you really complain when it only cost you $10???
Description of Pomerantz Wine Wizard Tabletop Wine Opener, Black/ChromeThe amazing Wine Wizard bottle opener eliminates the anxiety of opening wine at a table full of guests. This ingenious tool neatly extracts both traditional and synthetic corks without spewing cork particles on the table or in a guest?s glass. The opener?s 6-1/2-by-5-1/4-inch oval base has a rubber, suction bottom that sturdily adheres to any surface--to activate, simply depress the lever on back of the Wine Wizard. Wine bottles sit atop the base on an anti-slip cushion, while a key halfway up the Wizard body loosens the neck to adjust the opener to any bottle height. From there, opening is easy. Simply hold the neck of the bottle between the grips and lift the handle to lower the worm into the cork. Pull the handle down again to extract the cork, loosen the grips, and--voila! To remove the cork from the worm, just lift and lower the handle one more time while holding the cork between the grips. This professional-level opener has durable handles and gears made of chrome-plated, zinc alloy. Its body is made of lightweight plastic. Though the opener breaks apart into two pieces when not in use, it?s still a bit more cumbersome to store than a traditional corkscrew: The base piece is 8 inches long, while the opener measures 9-1/2 inches with handles and grips extending 8 inches across. The Wine Wizard comes with a foil cutter and an extra worm. --Cristina Vaamonde
