Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Polder Original Cooking All-In-One Timer/Thermometer

Customer Review: Possible fix
Summary: 4 Stars

Have had the Polder thermometer for over a year, has worked great [for the most part]. I have had two separate occasions where at room temp the thermometer reads way out of whack (120 - 160F).

This is far from scientific, but I think it has to do with moisture in the probe somewhere. Both times I threw the probe (not jack end) into a 400 deg oven for a few minutes, removed the probe and did a ice water/boiling water check, 32 degrees and 213 F. Not bad. Maybe some can rejuvenate their probes by hot air drying in the oven. Not a guarantee but worth a try if yours has failed.

How did I ever live without one of these? It has changed the way I cook. I grilled some T-bone steaks on the gas grill last night and they were great. I flip them a couple of time, insert the probe into the middle, set the temerature alarm to 160 degrees and then Beep Beep they are done. WARNING! The probe inside of the food may only be about 100 degrees or so but the rest of it is smoking hot. Make sure you have your mitten on before handling that probe, I know now. I also use it without the probe just as a timer. This is a must have item for the kitchen or back barbeque.

This is a great item. You can set the timer, as well as an alarm that will notify you when you've reached the desired internal temperature of the meat.

I use mine all the time. This was a replacement for one that was about 5 years old. My only complaint is that after 5 years, the wire frayed at the point where it attaches to the probe. I'll be a little more careful not to 'kink' this area on my new one.

The first replacement I ordered was defective, but the company handled the problem perfectly. Sent off a new one immediately, no waiting!

Customer Review: Few things in life are perfect---but this one is!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an outstanding item. My first one gave out after many years of hard use and, though other models are now available, I bought the identical model for a replacement. I gave one to an Illinois friend who winters at his Florida place and after his first trial he went out to buy one for his winter home. It works, it truly works---and it beeps at you the precise moment when your roast, or whatever, is done. I even use it for steaks done on the range and get perfectly done medium rare every single time. (Our wives love us---we are irreplaceable. We cook!)

Customer Review: Works Great

Yet another "I saw it on Good Eats" review. Thanks, Alton! My Kitchenaid stove has a built-in probe but it has gone kaput and I am not ready to pay megabucks for a repair. Enter Alton Brown, brandishing the Polder Timer/Thermometer on his TV show. I ordered the thermometer and used it at Thanksgiving; I found it both accurate and easy to use. I can't comment on the expected longevity of the device, but so far, so good. It was a reasonable price and I recommend it. I love that it isn't necessary to open the oven to get a reading on the doneness of food.
