Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Polder Digital In-Oven Thermometer/Timer, GraphiteCustomer Review: Not for use in smokers Summary: 2 Stars
The timer function is great and the temperature is accurate until the probe falls apart.
I have gone through 3 of the probes when used with my smoker.
I have used it for brewing many times with success but two smokes and the wire separates at the probe.
The Maverick RediChek Remote Wireless Smoker Thermometer has proven to be a more reliable thermometer for use with a smoker.
I do not know why the wire falls apart at the probe when used with a smoker but it does and it has done it to me more than once.
Customer Review: so glad i bought this Summary: 5 Stars
I was going to buy the one thermometer that America's test kitchen suggested. Then With more reading I found that the same manufacturer makes both brands...so heck with it, I bought this for five bucks cheaper. I had been wanting one of these for quite awhile. It makes it easy to do bread, to make roasts..etc. I used it to alert me when my scalded milk cooled down. This thermometer is worth it. I think it was reasonably priced as well. Just be careful with the cord. Any cord will get damaged if you don't be careful with it. I rinsed out a glass jar, from spaghetti and I stick the thermometer in there.
Customer Review: A good replacement Summary: 5 Stars
I had this thermometer before and loved it, but I messed it up when I tried to clean it with too much liquid and had a hard time getting the buttons to work. I've been limping along with these problems and had forgotten how wonderful this thermometer/timer was until I recently treated myself to a new one. Everything works perfectly and is easy to use. The timer resets to zero in a touch, setting times is very easy and the thermometer function works like a charm. And the color even matches my stove better than the last one I had. I would definitely recommend somebody getting this model without reservation.
Customer Review: great for yogurt making Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great product for making yogurt. The clip for the pan is vital, allows you to walk away and have a cup of tea until the alarm goes off and you turn off the heat. Then it's just a matter of waiting until the thermo reads 120, add the starter and the yogurt comes out perfectly. I was using an old thermometer I had to hold on to while checking the temp. of the milk and it was both annoying and the yogurt was spoiled several times because it's important that the temp. range is accurate. I learned about this product from my daughter, who has used it for years and makes the best yogurt there is.
Customer Review: One problem, otherwise fine. Summary: 3 Stars
All in all, I like this timer/thermometer. I like that it has both a timer and a thermometer, that comes in handy. It works fine on the grill and after owning it for many months, it hasn't malfunctioned yet.
The only problem is that it doesn't turn off. It's always on, using the battery. There is no on/off switch and I find that very strange.
Edited to add: This thermometer broke exactly 6 months from the date of purchase. The timer still works but the thermometer now says either "low" or 'Hi" and doesn't work at all. I'm going to see if Polder will replace the cord.
