i purchased this based on cooks illustrated review. i have to say its not much better than the lowest rated probe thermometer.

This digital cooking thermometer will get your food to a safe and tasty temperature every time! Multiple features make this superior digital meat thermometer a must have in every kitchen! Programmable 5 minute alarm allows you to preset a temperature from 32 degrees to 392 degrees Fahrenheit - the alarm will sound when your preset temperature is reached! A memory function will save the last temperature you used. Includes two magnets for refrigerator use. Extra long high-heat probe (43") allows the display to be far away.
