I use this timer on the job as a proffesional chef and wear it around my neck. Its positives are that its really fast and simple to program a countdown time. The fact that you can carry it with you and not put it in your pocket is great as well. The timer beep is plenty loud. Negatives are that its buttons are extremley sensitive so you cannot wear it inside a shirt so you look like some tech geek with it around your neck all day. Its also moisture sensitive so do not get it wet, though it does not crash entirely (not yet anyway!). Multiple timing settings would be great.

I am a cook at present. I use this timer frequently to time my cooking. I carry it in my pocket. I also use it to tell time. However, the plastic hole into which you thread the string broke, so that I can no longer carry it around my neck. I have to place it in my pocket. Even though I would highly recommend it for its usefulness, I would warn the purchaser not to pull at the string while attached to your neck because the plastic hole will break. It is just that I sometimes have it under my chef uniform and I have to pull it out from under my chef coat. That is how I broke it.Customer Review: Great timer, but I have two gripes.....

I really like this timer. Its very easy to setup and has a nice big display, counts up and down. I have two gripes about it though. 1. you cannot turn the alarm off which can be irritating in some situations. Also the alarm does no shut off automatically after a given time, it just keeps going and going which is not always desired 2. The other thing is that the buttons are very exposed and have no cover so they can be easily depressed accidentally. If you want to run or walk with this in your pocket, forget it. For a kitchen of task timer in the house its perfect.Customer Review: The alarm sound does NOT work

I originally bought this a couple of months ago for my cooking midterm and final- I needed something with an alarm to alert me to check on different items on the stove. This came after my midterm- and by the time I opened it up for use on my final (last week)- I discovered that the "alarm" did not work and it was too late for me to return and exchange at Amazon. It's made in china and I guess I am not surprised with this. At least is was only a nominal price- I would be hesitant to purchase this unless you are prepared to return it. don't bother buying itCustomer Review: I love this timer

This timer does everything I need it to. It makes an obnoxious noise which actually alerts me. It stays around my neck so that when I go in another room my timer is still there. I have not burned up one pan since I got this timer. It's really easy to set and after it goes off it resets itself to what you had it set for... so, when making cookies you can just press it once and it's set again to the same time. It's small, but, easily readable and it has a magnet that allows it to be stored on the side of my refrigerator. Totally cool!
