Customer Review: Durable: Survived My Washer & Dryer!

I bought this timer so I didn't have to hold buttons and wait for the time to arrive (or pass). I can enter the precise time on the 10-digit keys. The buttons are a little small, so it may not be the best for someone with large fingers or mobility limitations.
It's got a good loud ring. The lanyard is helpful. It counts both up (stopwatch) and down, which is handy for fitness activities. It has a convenient clock, and a magnet on the back for sticking to your refrigerator.
I recently, accidentally, ran the timer through my washer and dryer. When it came out of the hot dryer, at first, the display was blank. I figured it was dead. But by the time I'd put away the laundry, it had power again. It now works fine and is very clean. I didn't even have to replace the battery. :)

I had the white version of this timer by Polder that I used primarily for cooking for years and it finally wore out on me a few weeks ago. Polder has fixed one problem with this timer -- the color. If you had the white timer for as many years as I had, the color starts to fade and change and the nooks and crannies start accumulating grease, dust, etc. no matter how much you clean it! The black color will help make the aging and wear and tear less noticeable. I like the different color buttons, too. I hope they have found a way to keep the clear case on the digital readout part on after you drop it by accident, too :-} Only time will tell what bumps and bruises this timer can survive, but I can easily anticipate it lasting the 5-7 years of my last one.Customer Review: Handy, versatile stopwatch and timer

If you're often multitasking and cooking and watching TV and doing laundry and need something around the house to remember the spaghetti is al dente at 11 minutes or the laundry needs softener or moving to the dryer or to pull the steaks off the grill, this is a great little timer that you can hang around your neck or pocket. It will get your attention and has a fairly loud button sense and alarm. Good for outside timing the kids or at the office for impending meetings or deadlines as well. No backlight so you'll need a light for night use but otherwise all the functions are easily understood once you learn that you have to enter the time in complete HH:MM:SS format the first time. I have been using this timer for 5 weeks now and I love it.
I have to take meds on a very set schedule and so I have been looking and looking for a great timer that is both easy to use and very portable. I have been through MANY different models and brands of electronic timers over the past year.
I have to say this one is *almost* perfect. It never gets lost in my purse or pocket, it slips into my bra if I don't want to have it hanging on my neck.
It is discrete and not one bit ugly. Very easy to set and reset. I would buy it again if I needed to.
UPDATE: Jan, 2010... Still using this timer every day and have not had one problem with it at all. I would buy this one again for sure.

I bought this timer because it was mentioned as a good timer on a cooking show that aired on PBS a number of years ago.I think the best thing about this timer is that it has a fairly obnoxious beep when the timer goes off. that is exactly what I want in a kitchen timer.I just purchased a second Polder 898-95 because I like the first so much. I have bought 3 other Polder digital timers over the years and the only one that comes close to this timer is the timer that lights up when it goes off. I do not think the magnet on the back is strong enough to hold it up but I have tied it to a post and that works just fine. The button battery just died after 2 years of use so the battery life is not a big issue for me.
