Customer Review: Glass broke on first use and then it didn't read accurately

I bought this on a recommendation from Cook's Illustrated as a low cost, but accurate thermometer. The glass on this thermometer broke on it's first use, which was my Thanksgiving Turkey as I put it in the oven. I didn't see any pieces of glass, so I figured I'd leave it in. It read that the temperature was 160 in the Turkey breast couple of hours later and I took the Turkey out to check and it was no where near done. I put the Turkey back in for a while. A little later the thermometer was reading the breast as 190 degrees. I tried putting the thermometer in a few different places and got a wide range of temperatures. I did my best to guess when the Turkey was done, but I think the Turkey could have turned out better had the thermometer been accurate. I checked with Amazon's website and they say it's beyond the return policy since I bought it back in September. I'd like to exchange it and try another one and see if maybe I got a bad one or if it's just a bad product.
