I am not a knife expert, but I love this product. I have small children and I love the hide-away feature. The knives are very sharp, and I don't mind that they are lightweight, although I did expect them to be heavier. The bamboo cutting board is VERY heavy compared with my other cutting boards. This is fine though, it stays put and isn't easily moved by little fingers. My sliding drawer was hard to open at first as well, then I figured out that if I opened it in the other direction it was extremely smooth, so I trained myself to open on the one side. Maybe it is only supposed to open one way? In my opinion, this product is well worth the price.Customer Review: Did I get a used one or is this how they are actually made?

I ordered this as a gift for my brother but I checked it before giving it to him to see if I should get one for myself. I'm really glad I did because he would have thought I 'regifted' it to him. There are several deep scratches across the entire surface and it looks used. I don't have time to order a replacement but I have to clean and sand this one before I can give it as a gift.
The knives are fine and the wood is solid. Its possible it isn't actually used, just mishandled in packaging. If it didn't need repairing, I would have given it 5 stars. I hope this review actually gets back to the manufacturer so this problem gets fixed.

I love these knives. They are very sharp and a good size. I had been worried that they would be too slick, too hard to grip if my hands were wet, but this hasn't been a problem at all. I don't really care for the board itself; I have another bamboo board that is much better. This one is more of a laminate feel than "real" material. The nice thing about the board is the storage drawer for the knives. Each cut-out has a magnet inside to keep the knives from rattling around. Overall I am pleased with this purchase. I picked it up from the gold box one day for about $15, but I would still be happy had I paid Amazon's regular price of $30.Customer Review: Very nice idea - but poorly constructed

the idea is nice -- but unfulfilled.
the knives are of good but not great quality as I expected for the price.
the top surface of the cutting board is nicely finished.
the sliding knife drawer itself is a poor fit in the grooves
the routed out depressions for the knives are amateurish at best!
The poor job of routing is compounded with a terrible application of either wood putty or locally made wood dust mixed with glue to fill in some of where the routing is too deep or too wide. The depression for one of the knives actually exits the drawer proper and the gap is filled with a rough patch of putty.

I just received my set and I wish I had read some of the most recent reviews-- the ones that mention you need two hands to open the drawer, or one mentioned the drawer comes 'locked'. With out instructions, even a picture would help, I can't see how this drawer locks. I've turned it upside down, on it's side, have shaken it to get the drawer open.
If I had paid the $15.99 price like others, I may have kept it just b/c of the cutting board and hoped some day the drawer would open.
Since I paid the $29.00 price (boo), I am sending it back.
After reading the other reviews I don't need to get a replacement.
