Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Pinzon Santoku Knives and Bamboo Cutting Board Set

Customer Review: Very good quality
Summary: 5 Stars

I didn't expect the quality than it is! This set have three major components:

The knives are very good, sharp, light, and easy to handle. They maybe are not the superb, but I didn't expect to get knives in this fine quality with this price. You need at least 30 bucks to buy a pair of knives with this quality from supermarket.

The cutting board is very good, polished well that I don't worry that it could absorb the fluid or water and then harbor mold on the surface. The large area and thick board is another wonderful feature. I will use it as a base and cut food with plastic board on this cutting board.

The drawer is good. The two knives sleep well in the tray because there are magnet to keep them there graceful. The magnets surprised me.

Two problems with this design: 1. The drawer is hard to draw. But the good thing for this inconvenience is, it will be safer that the drawer and knives won't drop off incautiously. 2. I still have a little concern that fluid and water may flow into the drawer and then possibly invite mold.

But overall, this is a good thing for students or newly-wed who want to start their journey in kitchen.

Customer Review: Nice set
Summary: 5 Stars

I really love this set. When I saw it on Amazon, I instantly put it on my wish list and received it as a gift from my sister. She's amazed at all the fun stuff I locate on Amazon.

This set works very well. I never had knives like this before and they are very easy to cut with. Because they fit my hand so nicely, I can hold on to them for a long time and don't have a problem chopping up a lot of vegetables. My hand doesn't get tired using these knives.

The drawer is a bit tight to open and close, but I'd rather have it a little tight than too loose. It's probably something my brother can sand down for me to make it a little easier to open and close, but it's not really a big deal.

Over all, I would recommend this as an easy to use and fun set. Really, the last thing anyone expects when they use the cutting board is to have a set of knives in a drawer that you can so easily use! It's really great.

Customer Review: sharp knives and looks
Summary: 4 Stars

this set looks really nice on the countertop, my dad just leaves it out. the knives also have great shape and are extremely sharp. he was a professional chef for years and he loves them. but like other people, we had some issues with it at first...

1. my dad needed extra help[rubber mallet] to open the slide when he first got it. he oiled it up and hasn't had to break out the hammer again.

2. these knives are very light, especially for someone who is used to professionally weighted knives. so handling them was a bit different, but after a few days he said it felt nice to use them as there was very little effort involved.

Overall this set is very nice for someone who cooks a lot, and has a problem taking care of their knives[his wifey throws 'em all in a drawer, tsk-tsk] if you're giving this as a gift i would recommend opening the box and oiling the slide before giving the gift, they'll appreciate it.

Customer Review: Pretty to look at
Summary: 3 Stars

Very Pretty sitting on the counter. I haven't used it yet. Like others I too have difficulty open the drawer where the knives are kept. Once I opened up the secret stash I found the knives to be OK. They seem lighter to what I am use to perhaps I'll leave them in their hidden compartment or give them away. I am pleased with the cutting board though.
I will hand wash immediately after use. Wood should not be allowed to soak as it soaks up the water and expands. Please take note of this or you'll need a hammer to get to those knives. The Update: I now use this cutting board almost exclusively, I found that the height makes it easier to removed chopped veggies I have a square plate that sit lower and adjacent to it I just push everything onto the plate and whisk it to the stove. And it is pretty enough to be left out on the counter. The knives are still in the compartment and I am going to need some mineral oil to maintain it.

Customer Review: Very lightweight and easy to sharpen
Summary: 4 Stars

The reason the little knife drawer is hard to operate is that there are two little ball catches that snap into a groove along side the drawer to hold it into place when it is inserted in the underside of the larger board. I turned the drawer upside down and am using it as a smaller cutting board, which I store on top of the larger board. I keep the two knives right on top of the boards because I use them several times a day. The two knives have thin blades and light handles, which are really pretty cheaply made, but I like them very much because they are so lightweight and easy to sharpen with a steel. I have put them in the dishwasher and they do not rust. As another reviewer stated, these thin bladed knives are not meant to cut through dense items (frozen food or tough food). The boards are holding up nicely and are very easy to clean. I really like the light color of the wood.
