A perfect partnership! For a degree of difficulty in production, items with lids rank a "10". Being fired at 2500 degrees ensures the quality and durability for oven use, but increases the risk of torque or twisting of the pieces during this phase of production. To ensure the shape is maintained and that the lid will fit the casserole, the two pieces must be fired together. Each Pillivuyt lid and it's casserole are then perfect partners and will be boxed and sold together. As with all Pillivuyt porcelain, the Oval Casserole with Lid is microwave and oven-safe, even for broiling. It can go directly from freezer to oven. The simple, white design complements any kitchen or tabletop decor and is attractive enough to go with fine china to your table. Pillivuyt porcelain offers excellent heat retention to keep food warm at the table and it's impenetrable glaze will not craze or stain and is hygienic and easy to clean. All Pillivuyt porcelain products are dishwasher-safe and resistant to scratching and chipping. All Pillivuyt products are also lead and cadmium-free and guaranteed 100% food-safe. Pillivuyt porcelain is hand-crafted by artisans in a French factory that was family-founded in 1818.This elegant 1-quart covered dish is ideal for baking moist vegetable casseroles or satisfying beef stews for two people. The petite 7-3/4-by-5-1/2-inch dish has high, 2-1/2-inch sides for holding liquid ingredients and thick walls that provide the ideal heat conduction for slow-cooked dishes and that retain a dish's heat at the table. An exquisite specimen of fine French pottery, this porcelain casserole dish is a milky white color and has a curved rim and elegant scalloped handles that make it highly attractive for serving (although the handles are only 1/4-inch wide and don't offer a very secure hold). The matching lid is domed for locking in food's moisture during cooking. The lid is pierced with a hole to vent excess steam and has a convenient inset handle that doesn't take up extra space in the oven or cabinet.
Family-founded in 1818, the Pillivuyt porcelain factory still employs skilled artisans who use the proprietary porcelain recipe and the original time-honored traditions of handcrafting each piece. Replacement molds are all handmade by craftspeople who have spent many years in training, and who shape them to the level of perfection that this superior bakeware requires. The result is a tough porcelain base that can withstand temperature extremes, making this baker safe to move among the oven, freezer, microwave, or broiler. And, with a little liquid in the baker, the pan can even be placed over a diffused flame on the stovetop. All pieces are glazed and fired at temperatures of about 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit, which produces a non-porous, rock-hard finish that easily cleans up by hand or in the dishwasher.
