The first two times I baked muffins in these I LOVED the cups. Some of the cups became lightly stained after two uses, but I was unconcerned. To make muffins, I sprayed them with non-stick spray, as recommended, filled them to the easy-to-see fill line inside the cups, put them on a baking rack, and pulled out beautiful muffins that came out of the cups fairly easily, although a thin coating of crumbs was left behind. After a brief soaking in soapy water, the crumbs came out fairly easily with a dish brush. Some crevices were hard to clean out. I turned the cups inside out to clean them better and noticed that the silicone turned white where I temporarily creased it, but it healed when I uncreased it.
On the third use, I baked three dozen muffins (yes, I own that many), took them to the school bake sale, and luckily before pricing them, tasted one, then another, and then another. Finally, I took all of them back to my car, tasted them at home, and found that for EVERY muffin, the parts of the muffin that touched the silicone tasted like perfumey soap. It was hard for me to believe that every muffin cup was poorly rinsed after the last washing, since I don't use much soap in the first place. After some research, I found that silicone bakeware that contains fillers has been known to impart a soapy flavor (or other off-flavors) to baked goods. How do you know if yours contains fillers? Bend it. If the surface appears white instead of those nice pretty colors, it has fillers. Looks like I'll be throwing out 3 dozen baking cups. Soap anyone?
