My Rowenta DX1700 of 1 year started leaking and spurting and smelling like it was burning. So time for a new iron. Everyone thinks I love ironing because I seem to be doing it all the time. No, I hate ironing but it is necessary. I generally spend between $40 and $70 for an iron and if I'm lucky they last 2-3 years. But, this last one only 1 year. So, I looked for something good but cheap and I found the Panasonic NI-S300TR for only $18.95. Some sites are selling it for up to $45. Now, I can't attest to the longevity - have had it for 2 weeks, but so far this is an excellent iron - if you're using steam. Doesn't seem to get very hot without it - that's why only 4 stars, but I always use steam so good for me. I've heard the heavier the iron the better. Let me tell you, if you're ironing a lot and you have a 6 lb iron, you need to be a weightlifter. This iron is 3.4 lbs and easy to maneuver. Has only a 6 oz. water tank but is much more water efficient than the larger tank of my Rowenta. Even if this fails after 1 year I've only spent $18.95. I bought 2 and didn't have to pay shipping. So, for me the the Panasonic NI-S300TR was an excellent buy.
