Customer Review: Watch for scalding!!

Amazon just dropped direct distribution, instead offering it from a partner. The following written after reading all comments on this and on Zojurishi pots. Frankly, I research obsessively and excessively.
As the shape seems identical to that from some other non-Zojurishi makers, it may be indistinguishable in manufacture and performance from them. On the other hand, as a clearly labeled product of Panasonic Thailand (and made in Thailand), there may be better quality control on it than on pots from suppliers with smaller brand identity. Unit comes with warning that the gasket may/will fail with time and heat. So why not, for tiny cost, include a replacement in the box, instead of requiring separate purchase, handling and hassle?
Performance: Just what I wanted in the main. But, as per title, I wonder that this and all other pots don't protect the user's hand from hot steam when opening the refill lid. You just have to be careful because you will not and cannot lift that lid vertically. It is hinged and swings to the rear, and your forearm is potentially exposed to escaping and very hot steam. Maybe Zojirushi does this better. I can imagine a solution in the form of a simple pump which force-evacuates the 1-4 liters of steam from the pot before allowing the user to open the lid.
As to the rest. If you wish to heat or reboil water, an audible signal that that has happened, as with some Zojirushis would be nice. But, for price, I don't know that better is on the market. Unaccustomed to replacing appliances, I'm concerned about longevity of an appliance of plastic, gaskets, and circuit boards under or protected from the stress of steam -- heat and moisture -- with this duty cycle 24/7. (Compare the duty cycle to that of a waffle-iron or even of an electric kettle, for example, one which turns off automatically.) So, maybe this is one of the rare instances when an extended warrantee would be a good deal if it is a genuine one.
