Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of PUR CRF-950Z 2-Stage Water Pitcher Replacement Filter, 3-Pack

Customer Review: A great buy-- for a 3 pack!
Summary: 5 Stars

I can't find these anywhere Besides Lowes and they only sell a 2 pack for I think 19.85 or something. So for a 3 pack this is a great bargain.

I use these in the large water dispenser, so I am not aware of the LED issues, I just change mine about every 1.5-2 months. They come with a cling-on reminder so it is easy to remember, plus I find that when the water filters "fast" it is time to swap them out.

I really don't drink water.. I use it for my dog's water, coffee tea etc.. but when I do drink it, it ia just like drinking nothing.. sounds weird but that is just what it should taste like right? pure clean cold water. I am sure Britta makes a nice filter also , but if you need the stage 2 PUR filter, get these in a 3 pack.. it is like getting one free!

Customer Review: The old design was better.
Summary: 1 Stars

When I got these we wondered what was up with the missing indicator on top. I did some research and discovered it was a new design. I definitely liked the older one better because it showed usage based on flow through the filter. With this one you just end up guessing how much water you have run through it. Also these filters keep leaking their guts into the pitcher. I never had that happen with the old ones. It looks like salt and pepper all over the bottom of the pitcher. You have to be careful pouring so you don't get it into your glass. If the filters guts are leaking out into the pitcher what else is getting into the water? Once this pack is gone I will seek out another filtering solution. It is a shame because the old design was nice. I wrote P&G and they don't seem to care.

Customer Review: Disappointed
Summary: 1 Stars

I have a Pur and am very disappointed that I can't purchase the 950 anymore. Why did Pur replace the 950 with the lesser 950z?

First, they got rid of the filter-life indicator.

Second, but more importantly, NSF, a non-profit organization, does not certify the 950z for lead reduction but they did for the 950. Instead, Pur got the lead reduction certification somewhere else, from Pace Analytical Services. Note that Brita's filter *is* certified by NSF. Well, at least Pur did get the lead reduction certification from California's Dept of Health Services, which supposedly has stricter requirements than many other states.

Third, the 950z does not reduce as many contaminants as the 950 though it still does so more than the Brita's.

Customer Review: False Advertising PUR CRF-950Z
Summary: 1 Stars

This PUR water filter is the only one that can be used in the large PUR dispenser. PUR claims that it filters 40 gallons - this is a bogus claim - it stops working after 3 or 4 refills. PUR claims it will work for 2 months - it slows to almost nothing after one week! I thought there was something wrong with my water but, after reading other reviews about slow filtering, I know my claim is valid. Something is wrong with manufacturing (in Mexico) or design. I expected better quality from Brand P&G - no longer. I like the dispenser but sure don't want to pay $350 or more per year for filters - not to mention the amount of plastic material used. I read with disgust how PUR answered one consumer by telling them that most users like the new design better - I don't believe them.

Customer Review: Called Procter & Gamble about the missing Monitor feature
Summary: 2 Stars

First off, I want to thank all the reviewers for having called to our attention the missing monitor feature on the new version of this filter.

Like many others, the advice of replacing the filter every "one or two months" is of little help--our use varies greatly. These filters are not cheap!

I called P&G: they say the monitor was often inaccurate so it was removed. They stick to their "replace filter every one/two months." HOWEVER, they also say: "replace the filter when you notice it takes longer than usual to filter a pitcher's worth of water; the filter will not leach impurities, simply begin to clog up and take much longer to filter the water."

Considered switching to Brita but PUR filters out many more impurities than Brita.
