Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of PUR CRF-950Z 2-Stage Water Pitcher Replacement Filter, 3-PackCustomer Review: BUYER BEWARE!! Summary: 3 Stars
This item is actually great. But, beware. Iordered this item thinking it is going to be the CRF-950L like they advertise. But I was sent out the CRZ-950Z instead. They are the same filter, except that the L as a monitor top as it says in the description and the box has the word Ultimate on it. The 950Z has neither feature. Again, they are the same filter (as far as I can tell), but this is not what is advertised nor what I purchased. I am now on my second return with Amazon and will continue to return it untill they send me the correct item.
**EDIT 10-28-06** Well I have returned this item several times and got no where with amazon. The item was supposedly unavailable the last week or so and now has been brought back with a different picture and is now listed as a 950Z. But, beware the description still list it has having a monitor. The 950Z does not have a monitor to let you know when to change the filter. This is not the first time that I have noticed discription problems with Amazon. Though neither were so bad that I could not use the items, they were just not as expected or slightly off as described.
Customer Review: I liked the older filter Summary: 4 Stars
I have used both Brita and Pur. The water in my current city is pretty clean and comes from a reservoir/lake up in the mountains so the water is pretty good tasting no matter what filter you use. The big difference for me was that the Brita filter always leaks those black filter particles. I called up their customer service and was given a brush off, they said it was normal. But I can't give out water or juice with black things floating in it, so I switched to Pur.
Like many, I like the older Pur filter that had the time indicator. I think this is just a way for Pur to make more money.
Filter speed: I haven't had a problem with that. Because we have a thirsty household we always have a second water pitcher standing by. We just pour from the Pur pitcher into that when it's empty so we always have some filtered water ready.
Leaking top: For the times when we can't wait and we have pour with the pitcher only half full, I press down hard on the lid and that stops the water from leaking out of the top, it's that simple.
Price: Buy lots when it's on sale.
Customer Review: Still the best on the market Summary: 5 Stars
When PUR changed the style of the replacement cartridge, they didn't fit the PUR Canister. Since then, they have updated the cartridges and they fit perfectly (be sure to get the CRF 950z). No, they don't have the cute little indicator to tell you to change your filter. But here's a clue, people. When it takes longer for the water in the upper chamber to filter into the lower chamber, it's time to change the filter because it's getting clogged. I've been using the same canister for 12 years and have had to replace only the filters periodically. This unit gets used quite a bit and it goes through a filling every other day. The spigot is in great shape as well as the housing. I've given these as gifts to my friends and family. All are surprised at the difference it has made in the taste of their water, whether it's tap or well water. I have very hard water. Without filtration from the PUR, you can taste the iron, smell the sulphur, and see the calcium. With the PUR, no smells or taste. It's such a great product and works so well, I'm almost afraid they'll discontinue it.
Customer Review: Not Worth the Price Anymore? Summary: 2 Stars
As many others have mentioned, this new filter model replaces the original, which had bright orange indicators to allow consumers to track the filter's usage. The new model is supposed to be disposed of every two months like clockwork, whether or not it's exhausted.
The problem with that? Not all of us use Pur's average of 20 gallons a month. My average is closer to 8-9 gallons a month. So the bottom line for me is that I'm now expected to pay more than double what I used to for these filters! That's ridiculous.
As for the quality, I'm not that impressed. I have no idea whether the filters truly do their job or not. I live in a city with highly chlorinated water, and I can tell you that the chlorine taste is very much present after filtration, so I can only hope that the filter is working properly otherwise.
I hope that Pur will listen to the consumers' wishes and reinstate the original filter design. This obvious ploy to indirectly double their revenue does not sit well with me.
Customer Review: Always contact Amazon for problems products. Summary: 3 Stars
I selected the double container Pur dispenser. In the box was a message from PUR Company to contact PUR first if there was a problem. Well, I did and THAT was a mistake. As soon as I put water into the container the spigot leaked. Upon examination I saw that the gasket failed to be in place. Nothing I could do about that. When I called PUR, the rep said that they would decide whether or not to send me a coupon for a replacement. She changed her mind when I insisted on contacting Amazon instead of waiting for a possible coupon.
About 3 weeks later a coupon arrived. Of course I had to shop and find a store that had a double container/dispenser type, pay city and state taxes and pay for my gas to find a double container. The container at the store works find. However, the newer filters fail to deliver the cleaner taste of the older type. I have used Pur for over 6 years, but I am reconsidering because of the taste.
I wish I had just returned the Pur water dispenser to Amazon. The UPS is 5 miles closer to me and costs less in gas.
