I second what the other reviewer said...it cracks on its own...the worst part is, PUR said it's not covered under warranty because it's a "wear and tear" item. It sits in the fridge... They kept me going in circles and after the 30 day satisfaction guarantee expired, they then told me I could have returned it within the first 30 days but now it's too late. For a product based on the razor/razor-blade business model (I'm sure the real money for them is made from the filters, not the pitchers), this is a horrible way for them to deal with the situation. Oh, and I had another one leak within a few weeks. The water is makes is great, but if I wanted crack I'd either call a cable tech/plumber guy over or go to Columbia.Customer Review: BEST FILTER AND WATER PITCHER

I RECEIVED THIS PITCHER FILTER SYSTEM AS A GIFT. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!! I HAD A BRITA AND IT WAS JUST OK. I WAS NOT THAT HAPPY WITH THE BRITA. IT ALWAYS LEAKED TONS OF CARBON PARTICLES ON THE TOP. ALSO, I COULD SEE GREY LEAKING INTO THE WATER FROM THE LOWER PART OF THE FILTER. I FOUND THAT TO BE GROSS. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN WITH THE PUR AT ALL. THE WATER IS CLEAN, CRISP, AND I AM LOVING IT. ALSO, BRITA DOES NOT COME CLOSE TO FILTERING OUT WHAT PUR DOES. PUR FILTERS OUT SOME AGRICULTURAL, SOME PHARMACEUTICAL, LEAD, MERCURY, METALS, CHLORINE, ETC. I THANK THE PERSON THAT GAVE ME THIS. I was a little concerned about purchasing this pitcher because of the negative reviews regarding opening it. I bought it nevertheless because it seemed to filter better than Brita. I find it easy to open if opening as follows: Put one of your hands on top of the lid so you can hold it when it pops up (The hand on top plays no part in opening the pitcher. Its purpose is to just stop the lid from falling). With the other hand hold the handle same way as you would to pour water. Extend your thumb up and push on the corner of the lid. Lid pops up very easily. I can't really rate water taste because this is the first water purifying pitcher I've owned but I'm happy with it.Customer Review: Difficult to re-fill

I love PUR filters, the water quality is great - that being said, unfortunately its the design of this pitcher that disappoints.
I bought this pitcher with the intention of taking it to work so we could have cool filtered water on demand, yet I sent it back within in a day of receiving it because of the clumsy and difficult way to re-fill! You have to take the whole top off, there is no flap or easy fill technique, and after trying it a couple of times I realized that no-one in the office was going to take the time to pry the lid apart from the filter chamber (which is really quite difficult) and actually fill it up again!

THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE THE BEST WATER FILTERING SYSTEM EVER. I HAVE HAD A BRITA SYSTEM FOR YEARS AND WHEN IT FINALLY BROKE I NEEDED A FILTER SYSTEM ASAP BECAUSE THE WATER IN MY CITY TASTES HORRIBLE. AFTER HAVING A BRITA FOR ALMOST TWENTY YEARS I WAS VERY SKEPTICAL ABOUT BUYING ANOTHER BRAND, SO WHEN I GOT THIS SYSTEM I WAS VERY SURPRISED TO FIND OUT THAT THE PUR FILTER FAR SURPASSED THE BRITA, THE WATER HAS ABSOLUTELY NO TASTE, IT'S JUST CLEAN AND REFRESHING, JUST THE WAY WATER SHOULD BE. JUST BE AWARE THAT IF YOU HAVE A FAMILY OF WATER DRINKERS LIKE I DO BE PREPARED TO HAVE TO FILL THIS AT LEAST TWICE A DAY OR BETTER YET JUST BUY TWO!!
