Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of PUR CR-6000C 2-Stage Oval Water Pitcher with LED IndicatorCustomer Review: low quality Summary: 1 Stars
This is by far the very worst water pitcher that I have ever used. I don't know where to start. The entire thing is a plastic piece of junk. It takes at least 25-30 minutes to fill it because it takes so long for the water to go through the reservoir/filter. And you can't just fill it and walk away, you have to stand there and baby-sit it and make sure the water is coming out. The entire thing can't even be filled with water, it can only be filled just to the reservoir and even then it's way too much because it often spills out in different directions when I am pouring it. The taste of the water is rather flat, it tastes like evaporated water that's been sitting out. I do not care too much about filtered water, I got this for my family and loved ones who do, but they have told me that they prefer bottled water or tap water as I have very good tap water where I live. I do not recommend this to anyone. Fortunately, after I explained my problems to Amazon they gave me a credit (this is why they're the best e-commerce company.)
Customer Review: So Far So Good Summary: 4 Stars
I have had my Pur Pitcher for about 3 weeks now with no problems. I fill it in the sink, sit it on the counter for about 10 minutes to let it filter a bit and then stick it in the fridge.
We use it for a quick glass of water, to fill the coffee pot, or for anything else we feel we want cleaner-than-tap water for.
We certainly do notice a different in taste. The Pur water definitely tastes cleaner. I think we have decent city water to start with, so I am sure that helps with the filtration life, but I do wish it was at least 3 stage and not 2 stage.
I also wich it could fill itself. My significant other usually forgets the recipe for water and I am stuck filling the coffee pot with tap water in the morning ;)
UPDATE: ONE YEAR LATER
Still works like a charm. No cracks that others complained about. Just change the filter regularly and you have delicious, refreshing, clean water. And I am happy to report the GF learned to fill it up when she empties it ;)
Customer Review: Better water, awful design utility Summary: 2 Stars
The PUR filter seems to be a great improvement over the constant flaking of carbon from the Brita and the water is noticeably fresher tasting. However, the design, while looking sleek and attractive, does not serve the user well. The engineering is faulty, with little thought to how the weight of the water when pouring shifts the stress on the plastic, causing the pitcher to have obvious weak points for fracture.
Additionally, the design lacks any quality features to allow for ease of removing the lid to refill the holding chamber. This becomes a challenge to get the lid removed without breaking the plastic. On one hand, the designer created a lid that can stay on while pouring, on the other, it can take several minutes to pry the lid off for refilling. Overall, A for the filters and F for the design of this pitcher. Folks at PUR, it is time for your engineers to combine form with function. Because I like the filters, I am going to try a different PUR design.
Customer Review: Filters are Defective Summary: 1 Stars
I had really anticipated my complete switch over to PUR from Brita because of the better taste and more comprehensive list of contaminants that PUR removes. But this filter that came with the PUR pitcher I bought for work decomposed into the filtered water basin along with the water. I followed the directions to a "T". When I poured the unfiltered water into the top reservoir, not only did filtered water come out at the bottom, so did a continual flood of black charcoal. I don't mean a scattering of charcoal bits like you get with any filter. I mean a heavy flow of carbon that completely covered the bottom of the pitcher with about a half-inch of carbon "sand." This experience plus my recent experience at home with the PUR snap-on faucet filter that won't stay on after 2 months of use, has convinced me that PUR doesn't know what it is doing with regard to the system for its filters.
Customer Review: Love vs. Filter Changes Summary: 5 Stars
After struggling with several attach-to-faucet filters, I've settled on this little gem for all my water filtering and am wonderfully satisfied with but one caveat having to do with the 40 gallon or 2-month filter change recommendation.
Living alone, its size is perfect for my needs. Still, there's no way I'll use 40-gallons in a two-month period. Wondering if I could double the filter life somehow, my Googles failed to answer the question so when the little red light comes on, I just reset it for another 2-months. I haven't died yet, and the water in the second phase tastes great too and I'm sure it's still better than drinking from the tap.
I don't mind crawling in bed with Pur for filter replacements, but think that 2-month cycle is a bit on the greedy-side of selling filters--at least to the likes of penny-pinching moi. I subtracted a star for that.
