Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of PUR CR-6000C 2-Stage Oval Water Pitcher with LED IndicatorCustomer Review: its pretty and does a great job Summary: 5 Stars
I have been drinking bottled water for the past 12 years due to illness. It has just become to much for me to struggle with the weight of the bottles since I moved to a third floor apartment. I have also had faucet filters in the past and i never liked them, and i have had the brita pitcher and didnt like the shape or color. The Pur is perfect. i love the shape and the color. i even like the taste of the water. i didnt think that was possible as i am very loyal to my brand of bottled water. i realize some are complaining about a slow flow. in the beginning the flow was fast but as i kept using it the flow got slower. thats OK, its only normal. so long as when i pour it it pours out quickly. others have complained about the lid. The lid can be a pain to open at first. but all you need to do is put your thumb between the handle top and the edge of the lid and it opens easily. i have it about a month now and the flow is just starting to slow down a bit. the indicator light is still green so i know my filter is still good. i would say i have about a month left on the filter. I see no indications of stress breakage and hope that it stays that way. will update this review if it dosnt, also i pick it up by the handle and so far no problems. i am very happy with this product. i fill it at least twice a day. i use it to make coffee and drink straight. and to cook small meals like mashed potatoes or rice.
Customer Review: Great water filter Summary: 5 Stars
For several years, I used Pur's faucet mounted filter. When I moved into a new house, the kitchen sink's faucet wasn't compatible with it, so I looked around for a good pitcher to filter my water instead. I chose Pur because I know that Pur's water tastes good and their filters take out all kinds of junk. I also found that Brita's reviews were mixed. I wish that Pur made a 3-stage filter for their pitchers like they do for their faucet mounts, but I am happy with what I have. I have had this pitcher for over 2 years with no problems. It is a trade off from the faucet mount - I have to wait a couple of minutes for my water to filter, but my water is always nice and cold. I like the LED to remind me when it's time to change the filter, even though I never do it right away. I read on many Brita reviews that little black pieces of carbon from the filter find their way into people's glasses, but I don't have this problem with my Pur pitcher. Very rarely, I find one or 2 little black specs in the bottom of my glass. The biggest con to this product is that when I change the filter, the water tastes bad for the first couple of pitchers. I soak the new filter like the directions say, but I also fill the pitcher, let it filter, then dump it out 2 times each time I put a new filter in. After that the water tastes fine.
Customer Review: 2-Stage Pur Pitcher & Filters Are Barely Adequate! Summary: 3 Stars
First of all, we live in a "Hard-Water" environment and I'm talking about City water! This Pur 2 stage pitcher works fine & better than some of the other ones, and believe me we have used all of them.
The MAIN PROBLEM that we have been experiencing is NOT so much with the
plastic pitchers, but it's the Pur 2-stage FILTERS ... They don't work very well in 'hard-water area's' period!
They Only last not more than 20 days for just common things like making coffee every am or filling up the tea kettle or for just making a pitcher of sun tea! It's ridiculous that these 'Plug-In type' of filters not only don't last the referenced 60 to 90 days as per literature, but it's only a Stage-2 water filter, instead of a Stage-3 or 4 even!
And Yes, we have tried Brita & Honeywell too!
We don't even use this water for drinking purposes, we all use bottled H20.
For the high cost that we all pay per filter, we should be getting a better product, instead of one where PUR has been cutting corners.
I have Contacted PUR corp multiple times all thru 2006 & 2007, and GUESS what Folks? Yep, they have NEVER responded to any of my inquiry's!!!!
We would be interested to know if there are any Alternatives or solutions
that someone else would like to recommend please!
Customer Review: filtered water open to things falling into it, plus non-environmentall-friendly battery in lid Summary: 2 Stars
GREAT taste but RETARDED design, why would they make a water filter which has an open spout, into which dust or food particles can drop into and go right into the filtered water. A simple extension of the top lid to cover the spout would be all it takes to fix!!! Way to go!
BTW the LED in the lid is stupid - it means there is a battery, probably lithium, inside the lid. So guess what - that means the lid, when disposed of, constitutes toxic waste. Great idea but NOT ENVIRONMENTAL whatsoever. Lithium is extremely toxic even in the very small amount that is in the battery in the lid.
Plus the LED indicator in the lid is, as one might expect, likely to tell you prematurely that its time to change the filter, encouraging you to buy more filters.
Summary: great filtering product saddled by a retarded project manager who accepts the idea that filtered water should remain in a container with an opening for things to fall into the water, and a non-GREEN-thinking company that doesn't have basic knowledge of batteries as toxic waste. American Ingenuity at its best!!! Yay!!! John McCain all the way!!!
Customer Review: No more bottled water.. Summary: 5 Stars
I have a reversed osmosis system at home and have not bought bottled water for home use for some time. However, at work I had to either buy bottled water or carry it from home. This is getting old. I know, tap water is perfectly safe but I can't stand the smell and sometimes, sediment. Just pour tap water into a clear glass and hold it up the light and you know what I am talking about.
Well, problem's solved. I used this water filter the first time today and can tell you that it tasted just as good as my water from home. Now I can just keep a container or a big glass here and drink this filtered water. I usually drink over 60 oz. of water a day at work, so this will definitely help. Because of the weight, I can ony carry one 32 oz. bottle in my briefcase so don't have enough for the day.
Other people have problem with the handle, I will see if it happens with mine.
After a week: Yes, the lid is not easy to open. Hit or miss. May be there some instruction on how to get the lid off, but I don't see it. It is not extremely difficult, but it is annoying. I still like this water filter. It tastes great.
