Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of PUR 18 Cup Dispenser with One Pitcher Filter DS-1800ZCustomer Review: Very effective and a must have in any house Summary: 5 Stars
BACKGROUND: I had a 5 stage water filtration system in my previous apartment which could put any bottled water to shame :) Unfortunately I had to move to a different country and decided not to lug it around. I didn't expect this product to come close to it but I was pleasantly surprised.
PROS: Effective in the sense that it took away the metalic taste in the water and my humidifier is not clogging up as frequently.
CONS: None
NOTE:
1. It doesn't have a water softner - which is expected considering the size of the product.
2. The filters can handle 40 gallons of purification on the average - this works out to a month or less of filtration which is OK considering the fact that we do all our cooking and refill the humidifier with this.
3. Depending upon how fast you consume water it can become tiresome to keep refilling the container. Each cycle would take approximately 15-20 minutes depending upon how long the filter has been in use.
Customer Review: It was so nice I bought it twice... Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great water filter and it gets plenty of use in my household. If anything I could say "I wish it held more water," (I drink 3+ litres of water a day and it seems that I am always filling the darned thing up) - but that would be an unreasonable request. Who would want a dispenser so large that it would be unwieldy to carry to the refrigerator? No one - not even me. So I bought a second one so that one of them is always full! This dispenser is slim so that I can easily fit two side by side in my refrigerator. (Can't have too much of a good thing!) And this filter/dispenser is definitely good - it has a large fill "basket" and the 2 stage filter produces water that is completely taste and odor free. I could easily tell the difference in my drinking water! Lastly, the filters (with usage indicators) are long-lasting. I have filled my first dispenser twice a day for 1 1/2 months and it still hasn't reached the half way point. Very impressive results! Highly recommend.
Customer Review: Best filter I have found Summary: 5 Stars
I had the bigger Pur Dispenser when I lived in Las Vegas and loved it to death. Being in the military I recently moved to South Korea, where the water is a nice dark brown coming from the tap. Yum Yum. I picked up the Pur Pitcher and the water from it is absolutly purfect. But with my need of more water all the time (and I leave my Pur Pitcher at work now) I picked up the 2-Stage dispenser. By far better than lugging bottled water and it even seems to taste better than bottled, not to mention the money I save with this filter. I couldn't be happier...it will filter mud into pure crystal clear water. Good stuff, highly recommend this filter.
Add on : I have had this filter for a little over a year now.......and I know it filters out a lot of junk due to the fact that I have to clean out the unfiltered tray about once a month because a layer of Mud forms in the bottom (Yeah, mud!) So I am using this filter in extreme conditions, and it is doing GREAT!!!!!
Customer Review: Nice water filtration system Summary: 5 Stars
I decided to get this instead of a faucet mounted filter because it allows you to keep the water chilled in the fridge. It has plenty of capacity to make a pitcher of kool-aid or iced tea without having to refill the pitcher half-way, (something I always had to do with the smaller Brita pitcher).
I had a cheaper Brita pitcher before this, but was displeased with the carbon that comes out of the filters, (I would soak them in water as recommended). The carbon then seemed to cause leaks around the filter. This one doesn't do that. The filters also have an O-ring where Brita does not, which would provide a better seal keeping the unfiltered water from the filtered.
It is true a R/O system does a far superior job of filtering water, but you have to permanently install it. This is a downside if you are living in an apartment or renting a house.
This is a good substitute for a R/O system. I would recommend this over other filtering pitchers.
Customer Review: Could be better Summary: 3 Stars
I bought the PUR filter because it's cheap and I can put it in the frig. It filters out some stuff, but if you read up it leaves a lot behind also. It's better than Brita, probably better than bottled water also. I used it for about a year before my pitcher cracked. Between 2 adults I had to refill the pitcher everyday, so these filters last under a month for us. That was drinking water only, I never really had enough water in the pitcher to justify cooking pasta with it. Around the 10th refill, the filter begins to slow down considerably, but the 20th refill it takes maybe 8 hours to filter the water thru. I would only recommend this as a starter unit, knowing that that you will need to buy something more permanent down the road. It's not enough for more than 2 people, and it's really expensive compared to sink attached units. I upgraded to an Aquasana, and I love it. It taste wonderful, its much faster and it's more affordable. I'm also finally cooking with filtered water.
