This is a good can opener but takes a while to figure it out. Most everyone else in my family loses patience with it. If you stick to it and learn how to work it it is very nice.

The OXO Smooth Edge Can Opener cuts on the side of the can, below the edge - leaving no sharp edges on a can or lid. The side-wind knob with non-slip, comfortable grip is easy to use. The durable cutting wheel doesn't touch the can contents, while the lid pliers allow no-touch lid removal. It's a safe, hygenic way to open large & small lids.Sometimes the wheel needs to be reinvented, and the side-operation can opener, like this Good Grips Smooth Edge model from Oxo, is a case in point. Designed to operate on the horizontal, the opener makes a smooth cut below the can edge. The lid doesn't fall into the can, and the opener makes minimal contact with can contents. Built-in lid pliers let you grip the lid without touching it for clean and efficient removal. Though the large handles may be unwieldy for small hands, Oxo does use soft, nonslip material for a more comfortable grip.
