I drink vintage wine (generally over 10 to 15 years old) on a regular basis (few times a week).
Even though they have been well cellared, I have found that about 2 in 5 corks crumble under corkscrew (even waiter's friend). The wines are generally fine after the cork bits have been removed (often having to use strainer) - although the one on ten wines are off rule of thumb still applies.
I have now used the Outset Chillware Stainless Air-Pressure Wine Cork Remover for months and opened over 100 bottles and have never had a cork breaking/splitting problem. Well done
