Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Oster 6684 12-Speed Blender, Black

Customer Review: Excellent so far
Summary: 4 Stars

During the past few years, I have really grown to like banana milkshakes and was very disappointed when our old blender bit the dust. After spending a lot of time reading reviews on blenders, I was ready to buy a Waring blender for just under $[...]. The reviews were quite good, and they seem to last a long time. However, after spending a bit more time, I stumbled on this Osterizer for under $[...]. The ratings were all excellent, so I figured I could buy 2 or 3 if needed. It arrived quickly, and except for one issue, has been superb. I really like having 12 speeds - it turns out that the 2nd lowest works great for the banana milkshake (2 bananas and a bit of milk). At that speed it is much quieter than our prior blender. It has also worked well for my wife and daughter in making fresh fruit smoothies (really good). It sets up a great vortex. I didn't give it 5 stars because it has started making an odd noise at a higher speed. I am waiting to see if that ultimately leads to a problem or if I can just avoid that speed. Given that it is used every day and has been for 3 months, I am not too worried.

Customer Review: Good, basic blender gets the job done
Summary: 4 Stars

I almost didn't buy this blender because of the reviews that compared its motor noise to a jet engine.

There's no doubt that when you crank this thing up to its highest speed, it's loud. But on lower speeds, I find it very acceptable and comparable to any other blender I've owned. In my final analysis, blending is something you usually do for 30 seconds or less, so I can live with some noise if the blender works well, which this one does. It does a good job with frozen fruit for a smoothie, and purees soups beautifully.

After previously owning an Oster that I had to toss out because the plastic canister broke, and with all the bad news about plastics lately, I am very happy to have this entry level blender with a durable, GLASS canister.

I give it four stars because it's nothing fancy or beautiful, certainly no showpiece for a devoted foodie, but it's a work horse I expect to deliver years of reliable service.

Customer Review: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR
Summary: 3 Stars

This is a very loud blender. If it were used in a workplace, I bet OSHA regulations would require hearing protection. I have to step out of the kitchen or my ears ring afterwards. Seriously. Also, it's a little tricky to put in the blade assembly exactly right and then put the bowl onto the base exactly right -- and if you don't, you'll get a loud grinding sound accompanied by the wonderful smell of melting plastic. Or you'll have a leak and whatever you were blending will spill all over your counter, which is really, really annoying. The blade is not built into the bowl, and the blade is kind of dangerous to clean, although in most cases you can take the lazy way out and use the self-cleaning feature. Overall, this blender does the job and it's relatively inexpensive but it's just not a very well designed piece of machinery. I kind of wish I hadn't bought it.

Customer Review: Prettty good blender
Summary: 4 Stars

I've been using this blender for about 4 months now for frozen fruit and vodka drinks every morning before work. The blade got slightly bent out of shape but it still works well.

Even my mute neighbor with the mongoloid child can operate this thing without a fuss... and believe me, that guy is not too bright. I lent him a weed whacker once and I come home to find 3 of my chickens got welts all over their ankles because we share a half-acre and he thought he was doing me a favor by whacking my edge. Those birds didn't crap straight for a month.

The blender's speeds don't really matter to me. I usually just crank it up and let it rock for a couple minutes.

And HEY! You can use a regular Mason jar as the receptacle which is great for me because I used to sell bibles

Good product over all, thanks

Customer Review: Works with Mason Jars!!!
Summary: 4 Stars

I just received this blender yesterday, and just want to confirm that regular Kerr Brand Mason Jars work with this blender! Most of the people that wrote reviews mentioning this fact wrote them under the mini jar accessory for this blender.

So, if you are a regular smoothie maker like myself and hate dirtying up the 5 cup jar for just one smoothie, get yourself an Oster blender and some Mason Jars! That way, you can make a single drink in the same jar you drink from!

Be sure to buy the regular mouth Mason Jars... NOT the wide mouth. I bought a case of 12 Mason Jars for $11 but they can be found for a little less.

I'll update this review as I use the blender. For now, I justed to confirm reports that Mason Jars do in fact work with this blender.
