Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Oster 6293 6-Slice Convection Toaster Oven, BlackCustomer Review: Great baking Summary: 4 Stars
I bake in my toaster oven. I use it for cornbread, brownies, oatmeal-peach crisp, baked chicken, anything I can fit in a 9" pan. This is the only oven I have found that will allow for a square or a round 9" pan. I tested the temperature and found it accurate within 7 degrees, which is close enough for me, especially for a toaster oven. Just watch the bisquits and rolls as they will get done very quickly. I can't speak for the toast setting since we use an actual toaster, but we do make our own pizza bread and garlic bread on the bake setting, and it's great. I don't think the convection fan is very loud, and I like the controls very much. I am withholding the fifth star because the oven, like every other oven on the market, gets extremely hot. If a toaster can have a cool-touch front, it seems like a toaster oven could have a cool-touch exterior. But I just love how much I can do in this oven. Oh, I also broil parmesan turkey patties in this, also great. Don't overlook this one!
Customer Review: Burn Baby Burn! Summary: 1 Stars
This oven was cheap & I did like the crumb tray, but get a non-stick toaster oven liner for even more ease and quick clean time.. Other than that, I hated it. I have 4 kids under 4 so I NEED a toaster oven for an extension of cooking family meals, frozen pizzas (the full sizers) baking and the like. Toast does take forever - Big oven, long heating time-obvious. The crank toast knob cannot be set up easily. It is not a firm grasp so you can't get it set perfectly. Every time I used it it would either burn the rats out of the food or it would shut off while it was still slated to keep going according to the markings - it wouldn't ding so it took way too much time. I don't have oodles of time to sit and stare at an appliance to make sure nothing burns or stops. I use a toaster for just about every meal and snacks plus baking in between, so I used her about 50 times and nothing was consistant at all. Stay away even though the reviews are not bad. Customer Review: Am happy with the purchase Summary: 4 Stars
I just got this after a while of considering it. My aunt and friend both have one, and they like it and recommended it to me. So, with a sale at target - I'm a new owner.
(Because I haven't totally used all its functions yet, I will keep my rating at 4 stars for the time being.)
Reviews so far:
Good Size
Bakes well
haven't toasted yet
I like that it's large enough that my items are not right next to the top elements (like in my old toaster oven).
Loud timer is good for me - I like to hear if it's running - even in the next room (so that I can multi-task while cooking)
Yes, it runs warm - but then again, so does my regular oven at 450 degrees. Actually I like it - it adds heat to my chilly kitchen in the winter! :)
Will try baking brownies in it later today - and will let you know how it goes....
Gotta go now - timer just dinged - Lunch is done!
Customer Review: Beautiful, efficient, and compact Summary: 4 Stars
I needed a small convection/toaster oven to cook for two without having to use my conventional oven for such small things as baked potatoes, garlic bread, roasted vegetables, chicken breasts etc. Also to keep items warm while finishing preparing dinner.
Pros:
It looks great in my kitchen
Plenty of internal oven space
Preheats quickly
Maintains constant temperature
Cooks evenly
Cons:
Item 6293 (Black) comes with only one rack
The supplied broiler pan is cheap aluminum
The timer is a little loud but not too bad
It gets very hot on the outside (use mitts to open the door or you can get burned)
All things considered I love this product, saves me time, money, works well and it looks great. (Granted I had to buy an additional rack and better pans) but I bought the oven on sale so I ended up spending a little less than the original price.
Customer Review: One of the better TOs I've owned Summary: 4 Stars
I have had several different brands of toaster ovens over the years and have never really like any of them, my last Black & Decker being by far the worst - it never heated either evenly or accurately and did a terrible job of toasting bread. I ordered the Oster mostly because the red one looked totally cool. I use it daily and so far have no complaints, other than the overall size. It is NOT a compact model. This means, of course, that it will cook larger items than the B&D did. It is tall enough to handle roasting a whole chicken and wide enough to fit a pizza. That is my only complaint - I don't use it for things like chickens and pizza, so the extra size is not really a plus. Other than that, it heats quickly, bakes evenly and broils very well. I thought the timer feature was silly, but now that I've used it, I love it. No more burning things because I forgot to set a timer.
