Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Oster 6233 6-Slice Toaster Oven/Broiler, White with Chrome AccentsCustomer Review: Not perfect, but not horrible. Summary: 4 Stars
I looked at a couple of dozen T/Os before selecting this one. My selection was based primarily on the size, the fact that it had two rack positions, four really, since the rack position can be changed by turning it over, four heating elements, and made the pretense of being able to make toast in addition to performing ovenly duties.
The first evening I had this T/O, on the very first try, I made decent toast, then baked salmon and seasoned potato slices (starting with frozen) and finally broiled cinnamon toast. I guess it helps that my last T/O was truly primitive, one temperature (full on) and a 15 minute timer. I do not find the multiple knobs at all confusing, to the contrary they make perfect sense to me. When making toast, it is not necessary to wait for the elements to start glowing as noted in a previous review, the warm up time is included in the setting of the dial. I do agree that some trial and error will probably be needed to get a feel for the right setting to consistently make toast the same way every time, but I do not find that to be too objectional. The handle IS poorly shaped and positioned, but I do not mind bending to take a peek, when needed.
Two things do bug me about this T/O, however. Firstly, the power cord is incredibly short. I had to use an extension cord to reach the short distance, less than two feet, from the counter where the oven sits to the outlet. Ridiculous. Next, when I was looking at the demo of this model in the store, I noted that the door did not seem to seal tightly on the right upper corner. Sure enough, the one I bought has the same small gap. This does not seem to effect the functionality of the oven and at 400+ degrees, I did not notice any hot spots created by escaping heat. So, for the price, $38.99, I feel this is was a bargain, and performs exactly as advertised. The documentation accompanying the item was very sparse, however, so if you have never used a T/O before, you will probably have some homework to do.
All in all, I recommend this T/O.
Almost six months later and this T/O is still working perfectly. I now use my gas oven for storage. I have used this oven for all kinds of baking, broiling, toasting, etc., and it has performed flawlessly. There is also the fact that I have saved a lot of money, given the high price of natural gas, this winter. I find that food prepared in the T/O has taste and texture much superior to that prepared in my microwave.
I'm really writing this update because I note that someone had a problem getting the oven door to shut. That is probably because the wrong rack was in bottom position. One rack is made of thinner gauge wire. That rack must be on the bottom, or the door will not close.

Still using it. Still loving it. About a year, now. I have now started using it for baking, cornbread, brownies, quick breads, etc. The rack needs to be in the lowest position. I usually take things out a few minutes earlier than the recipe calls for as it does not take as long for things to bake in the TO. For instance, my cornbread recipe says something like 25-30 minutes. If I leave it in for 25 minutes, it is burned on the bottom, so I now take it out at about 22 minutes and it is perfect.
